The linebackers sit around the sticks on third-and-12, so a shallow in-breaker runs directly into them and leaves Wicks short of the line to gain. By getting vertical first, he creates space behind the second level.

On a third-and-12, he got vertical first to create space behind the second level, allowing him to reach the line to gain. The offensive line gave Hurts time, and Hurts hit him with a perfect throw with outstanding touch.
