Thornton is identified as Mahomes' favorite deep target in 2025 and was dormant in Week 1 but re-emerged in Week 2 with explosive results. Mahomes found Thornton twice downfield for explosive gains, showcasing chemistry that carried over from last season. On one play, Thornton beats man coverage with a great route, shaking free to the outside while Mahomes steps into a perfect pass; Thornton holds on despite taking a big shot. On another, Thornton tracks downfield against zone coverage while Worthy holds the defense's attention, and Mahomes fires a dart to set up first-and-goal.
