Downs' vertical push occupied deep safety on Dagger concept, clearing space for Treadwell.

Josh Downs ran the slot receiver position on the Dagger concept play, pushing vertically on a go route while Treadwell ran the dig at around 15 yards. Against Houston's Cover 3 look, Downs served as the clear-out route; his job was to occupy the deep safety and make sure that defender could not drive downhill on Treadwell. The source notes that Downs did not need to win the rep or even run it with the same urgency he would if he expected the ball—his role was purely to create space underneath by forcing the safety to respect his vertical push through the deep third.
