STACKED’s take
Blough's play-calling shows rapid development against elite Seahawks defense.
Blough is developing rapidly as offensive coordinator for the Commanders. In Week 3 against the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks, he called an outstanding game with a backup quarterback and depleted offensive line, demonstrating growth in play-calling sophistication. He dialed up creative plays including a fake swing pass/tunnel screen to Jaylin Lane, managed time of possession with commitment to the run and short passing game while taking downfield shots, attacked quickly after turnovers (three plays to score on a 30-yard touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin following Sonny Styles' interception), and prepared effective checks for Mariota at the line. He sealed the game with a read option call on third and long.
