Vikings traded McCarthy to Giants after 6-4 start; O'Connell lacked confidence.

McCarthy was traded to the New York Giants for a 2027 5th-round pick after the Vikings decided to move on from the young QB. Despite a 6-4 record as a starter with road wins vs Lions and Cowboys and a home win vs Commanders, plus a 4th-quarter comeback vs Bears, the Vikings organization—particularly Kevin O'Connell—apparently lacked confidence in his development trajectory on a rookie contract with two more seasons remaining.
