Yahoo Sports NFL on Trey Lance

Lance's career arc mirrors McCarthy's: drafted into win-now situations, couldn't survive early struggles.

Trey Lance, another gifted quarterback who came from a dominant college team with a run-based offense, found himself in a similar situation to J.J. McCarthy three years ago. Both were drafted into win-now situations with veteran rosters, struggled early, got injured, and never received another meaningful opportunity to develop. Unlike McCarthy, Lance at least offered significant untapped upside and high-end mobility and arm strength as a prospect.
