McCarthy's situation mirrors Trey Lance's: drafted into win-now teams that couldn't afford QB development.

McCarthy's situation parallels Trey Lance's trajectory: both were drafted into win-now situations with proven quarterback development infrastructure, but those teams couldn't afford to ride out young QB struggles the way rebuilding teams can; both got one longer leash, struggled and got hurt, then never got another chance.
