Brown forced into stationary X role (94% outside); declining receiver needs better role fit.

A.J. Brown was used as a stationary X-receiver in Week 1, running 94% of his routes outside and 100% of his 12 routes outside from 11 personnel. Matt Harmon notes this is a poor fit for Brown, a declining 29-year-old receiver playing at less than 100% after a high-ankle sprain who needs more role catering than the Patriots' vertical-route-heavy system provides. Even when Brown returns, Harmon is skeptical his presence will be enough to get Maye anywhere near 2025 production levels.
