Daily Norseman on J.J. McCarthy

McCarthy traded to Giants for 2025 5th-rounder; impressing Nagy early.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy was traded from the Minnesota Vikings to the New York Giants on Sept. 28 for a 2027 fifth-round pick. The former No. 10 overall pick called the trade a shock, but had watched Minnesota build its plans around another quarterback since March. Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said McCarthy has done well since arriving, impressing in his first 48 hours despite the compressed learning timeline. The Giants pursued McCarthy because the offense was designed around a mobile quarterback who can use his legs and throw on the move—strengths McCarthy shares with injured starter Jaxson Dart.
