Willis's four-game audition shows flashes but falls short of franchise QB standard.
After four games as the Dolphins' starting QB in his franchise quarterback audition, Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson assessed Willis's play as "not good enough." However, Jackson acknowledged "during fleeting moments, tantalizing enough to not totally rule out the possibility that he could become [a franchise quarterback]," citing dynamic arm strength, escapability, high-end athleticism, and the ability to throw on the run as NFL-specific skills that keep the door open. Jackson noted that "you can't determine anything definitively after four games, particularly when several of the players around Willis are underperforming or simply not good enough," but emphasized the Dolphins are still waiting for a game where they can say "we have our guy!" or at least "I think we do." A month into the season, that game hasn't happened.
