Game on the line. Third-and-4. The Eagles go empty, which I'm fine with. The Rams play Cover 1 man coverage, and the Eagles should have a way to create an opening. Instead, they give the defense a static picture and ask Ertz to win on a straight slant. A 35-year-old tight end signed two weeks ago is your answer here? Really? No motion. No bunches or stacks to force defenders to work through traffic.

Ertz asked to win straight slant on game-deciding 3rd-and-4; no scheme help, poor design on critical play.
On a game-on-the-line third-and-4 in empty formation against Rams Cover 1 man coverage, the Eagles asked Ertz (a 35-year-old tight end signed two weeks prior) to win on a straight slant with no motion, bunches, stacks, or spacing help from the offense. The source criticizes this as poor offensive design, arguing that identifying man coverage does not magically get a receiver open and the Eagles failed to design a play that gave their group a chance against it.
