Achane was a 2026 Pro Bowl breakout performer and signed a four-year, $64 million contract extension. His stated goal is the NFL rushing title, which the source believes is reachable this season given how much of Miami's offense should run through him. The Dolphins have high expectations for the offensive line, and Achane should benefit from read-option plays with Willis, which will force defenses to hesitate and create running lanes. Additionally, Slowik should use Achane as a passing threat in the slot receiver role, giving him a decent percentage of touches through the air.

Miami's primary offensive weapon is its running back Devon Achane. He is fast and explosive; if he has lanes to run through with blockers in front of him, it could make for a long day on defense. In the past, he was utilized primarily as an outside zone, stretch and counter runner. In new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik's scheme, we should expect him to do more of the same. Achane is the type of back who can and will put up career numbers in a hurry. More importantly, if he gets going, then he takes a ton of pressure off of his quarterback.

Achane's explosiveness and versatility present a critical test for the Raiders' unsettled interior run defense in Week 1. As a receiver, he presents equal headaches for defenders covering him out of the backfield; if he gets going, it can limit the Raiders defense from pass rush opportunities against Miami quarterback Malik Willis. One mistake or missed assignment by the Raiders can result in Achane finding the end zone either from the interior or perimeter.

Achane produced a career-best 1,350 rushing yards on 238 carries with 8 touchdowns in 2025, adding 67 receptions for 488 yards and 4 receiving touchdowns for a 12-touchdown total. The 24-year-old, 5-foot-9, 195-pound third-round pick (84th overall, 2023) from Texas A&M clocked a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at the Combine and is setting a goal to lead the league in rushing this season; his explosiveness, speed, and versatility make him capable of making even elite NFL defenses look foolish.
