1:10Is Sam Darnold now glute injury-free? Coming up on the NFL Report, it sure sounds like the champs may be getting their quarterback back.
1:18Meantime, is it time to start worrying in Houston?
1:21Lance Zerline is there. He's here to tell you if we should be concerned about the Texans at 0-2.
1:27Plus, will the real Panthers defense stand up? We'll sit down with Carolina linebacker Jalen Phillips.
1:32It's next on the NFL Report. Hard to believe it is week three already, everybody.
1:37Kicking off like almost in an hour. Welcome to the NFL Report.
1:41My name is Andrew Siciliano. We're presented by Nationwide.
1:43Coming up, Lance Zerline is here. Are the Packers maybe prime for an upset tonight against the Falcons?
1:49We have that story for you. We start, however, with what is news to me.
1:54The latest headlines, and it is quarterback news. It's quarterback news out of Seattle, where I am telling you there is a
2:01chance the 2-0 Seahawks are going to get Sam Darnold back on the field Sunday in Washington.
2:07Darnold practiced Thursday after missing last week's game in Arizona with a glute injury.
2:11Do you think he'll be able to play Sunday?
2:14You know, I'm really striving for that. But again, like I said, you know, I'm just taking it day by day.
2:21Also don't want to jinx anything. What do you need to feel or think today, tomorrow, to know you can play Sunday?
2:28Yeah, I think just mentally having confidence. Having confidence in my body, being able to go out there and, you know, if
2:35I need to take off, feeling good about sliding and, you know, just doing all the football things.
2:41Worrying about playing football. Not worrying about, you know, not worrying about the hip at all.
2:46Just going out there, playing football, playing fast. He doesn't want to jinx it.
2:50I guess he does believe in jinxes. All right, meantime, Minnesota.
2:54Bad news, good news about the Vikings. Bad news, Vikings offense is last in the NFL in total yardage.
3:00Good news is they're still 2-0 with Carson Wentz.
3:03More good news. Kyler Murray is back this week.
3:06I mean, as a competitor, I want to play last week, you know, but I understand what, you know, the protocol is and how everything shakes out.
3:15But I'm excited. I'm excited to be back. And, you know, I'm just, I'm thankful that we're 2-0.
3:20Shout out to Kars, you know, coming in and doing a great job.
3:25Couldn't be happier for him and his team. But just to be 2-0 in this situation right now is amazing.
3:31Vikings and Kyler are going to be in Tampa to play the Buccaneers.
3:35Meantime, the Rams are going to be in Denver Sunday night.
3:39And it sure sounds like Puka Nakua could miss another game.
3:42He didn't play Monday and still is not practicing with what Sean McVay is calling a hip injury.
3:48When you're a skilled player, Gary, and you're really trying to hit high-speed yards and really open up and you feel just,
3:55you know, it's like some of the things that can almost be like, you know, pre-hernia is kind of what he's feeling.
4:02And so you err on the side of caution.
4:05Usually time is the best thing that allows that thing to heal.
4:09And then once you get to a certain point, then I think you feel pretty good moving forward.
4:15But it's not something that, you know, from talking with Reggie and our medical group that feel like is any sort of long-term threat.
4:23I just know that he's frustrated and, you know, we all want him to be able to be out there.
4:29But we want him to be able to return to performance, not just be able to just kind of gut through it.
4:36Reggie Scott, that's who Sean is referring to. He is the Rams head trainer.
4:41Meantime, that's Joey Porter. The Steelers could really use him this week, you think, against the Pengles?
4:46Yeah, I think. Porter finally spoke today after not getting a contract, after not playing the first two weeks.
4:52And again, he's limited, doing very little in practice.
4:55When we talked to you, the deadline for negotiating contracts has kind of come and gone.
5:00What was your emotion as that kind of came through and the extension didn't get done?
5:05It didn't get done. It didn't happen. That's really just old news for me now.
5:10It's mainly just focused on what I got ahead of me.
5:14And it's really just getting back to 100%. Do you see yourself playing at some point, Joey?
5:19Yeah, definitely. At some point. At some point. At some point.
5:23And the question wasn't this week. It's at some point.
5:26He said yes. At some point, I may dress that cool.
5:30Although I highly doubt it. We are getting ready for football in Lambeau.
5:34How about Edger and Cooper, Cowboy Cooper walking into the building?
5:37Let's do a primetime preview now presented by Nationwide NFL.com's Lance Zerline with us as we get ready for the Falcons and the Packers.
5:45Green Bay, Lance has won 13 consecutive games as home openers at Lambeau.
5:49So they're the decided favorite here. But Michael Penix, we saw him.
5:53He is back. What is the Penix, Tommy Reese offense look like?
5:57And do they have a shot? Well, it's better look a lot better than what we've seen.
6:02I mean, what we've seen is one touchdown, five interceptions, 53% completion percentage, and less than six yards per attempt.
6:09So what Michael Penix is going to do is allow the Falcons to potentially open the field up a little bit, stretch the field out.
6:17You know, the biggest benefactor of that is going to be B.
6:21John Robinson, who has faced 84% of the time he's faced a 7, 8, or 9 man box.
6:27Only 16% of the times has he faced a light box of 6 or less.
6:31So if you can stretch the field a little bit, it's going to benefit you.
6:36And I think that's something that Michael Penix has the ability to do is open the playbook up and more importantly open
6:43the field up a little bit in terms of backing safeties off.
6:47It would be great if the Packers could run the ball because that would open the field up for Jordan Love to take some shots down the field.
6:56Right. Is this the night that Green Bay's ground game, remember no Josh Jacobs, gets it going?
7:02Well, I mean, it could. They're averaging 3.3 yards to carry right now.
7:06It's been miserable. They have nobody that's a bell cow.
7:09They really miss Josh Jacobs who can create yards on his own.
7:13But really the offensive line has been a major problem for Green Bay up to this point.
7:19Not just run blocking, but pass protecting as well.
7:21They've given up seven sacks and the Atlanta Falcons can get after you as well.
7:26They have seven sacks on this season. So if you can't run the ball, we know the Falcons can go get the
7:33quarterback and we know Green Bay has a hard time stopping it.
7:37So they better get it going to the tune of about four yards carry.
7:42And that one kicks off at slightly after eight o'clock Eastern time, seven o'clock local there in Green Bay.
7:48Lance, stay there, want to get to the Rio game.
7:51Let's set that one up because again, there is an international game this week and it's at four o'clock Eastern time.
7:58Ravens, Cowboys in Rio on a day in which Baltimore offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle defended his play calling by saying, yes, I
8:05know Derrick Henry is on my roster. Dallas coach Brian Schottenheimer said he too was aware.
8:10Incredible player. What we have to do is we have to create knock back.
8:15Our front has to play really, really well because if you can kind of make Derrick hesitate his feet a little bit,
8:22it gives you the best chance to slow him down.
8:25If he's getting seams and build up speed and they're knocking us laterally, which we never want to be knocked laterally.
8:32Unfortunately, those seams are big and safeties and linebackers just have a hard time getting them on the ground by themselves.
8:38Cowboys have ruled a couple of guys out over Sean and Malik Hooker.
8:43They're not going to go. The Ravens also have injuries.
8:46Zay Flowers, Ronnie Stanley not practicing, remains to be seen if they get on the plane and head down to Rio.
8:53Remember, Zay Flowers has not played since halftime of week number one.
8:56Lance, let's look at this one. Let's go to the Cowboys offensive side.
9:01George Pickens has nine receptions. For now, everyone seems to remain calm.
9:05I mean, that can't hold, can it? No, he's in a contract year.
9:09Can't hold. CeeDee has been great. And, you know, he's playing the good soldier right now, George Pickens.
9:15But it's a contract year. And I would expect Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense to really target Pickens.
9:21I think this is a breakout game for George Pickens.
9:24It's been bad the first two from a production standpoint, but I do expect him to have a bigger game here.
9:31So watch for that to balance out a little bit more between CeeD Lamb and George Pickens.
9:36All right. If the Ravens have a lead this week, can they actually hold it?
9:41Well, I mean, look, the last 19 games dating back to the beginning of 2025, they've lost five games when they've been
9:48tied or ahead heading into the fourth quarter. And I mean, they've been badly outscored in those games as well.
9:54So the problem is defensively, they've been miserable in those types of games.
9:59But Lamar Jackson hasn't been much better, completing just 50% of his passes in the fourth quarter of those losing efforts.
10:05So closing the games out, we talked about how great Derrick Henry is and what makes him so good is that in
10:13the fourth quarter he can close games down. But uncharacteristically, five losses over the last 19 games when they've had a lead
10:20or been tied headed into the fourth. They got to start closing.
10:23Yeah, they got it. I heard you chuckle under that Declan Doyle line.
10:28He actually said that today. Yeah. He defended taking a deep shot on third and one and then followed it with, I
10:35am aware that Derrick Henry is on our roster.
10:38Don't be a genius. Just give it to the big guy.
10:41No, I get it. We are also aware that the Chargers are 0-2.
10:45What should your level of concern be? Maybe you're not concerned.
10:49How about the Chargers level of concern? We'll ask Lance straight ahead of the NFL Report.
10:54The new NFL season is here and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
11:01Last year, we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold on the field after the game.
11:06But that was last year. If you're a football sicko like me, NFL Daily is your kind of show.
11:12It is in the name. NFL Daily, fresh content in your feed every day, all season long.
11:17Matthew Stafford coming off his MVP season. On a dazzling dart from Matthew Stafford.
11:22Big time trades that shake up the NFL. A.J.
11:25Brown is loose. And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trophy.
11:30The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60. They are bringing the Lombardi back to the Northwest.
11:35If it's happening on a football field, NFL Daily will cover it.
11:39Listen to NFL Daily on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

13:53They are one of the more fun teams in the league.
13:57They are a roller coaster every week, but they are one and one, and they're heading to Cleveland this week.
14:03They are your Carolina Panthers, and this guy has a sack in each of the first two games.
14:09One of the newest members on that defense, Jalen Phillips.
14:12Good to see you, man. How are you? Good to see you, too.
14:16I'm doing well, man. Can't complain. Good. I mean, you could.
14:20You've got a bad back. It's week three. You didn't practice Wednesday.
14:24Back is okay. Yeah, it's good. No, I don't have to complain.
14:28Maybe yesterday I couldn't complain, but I'm good now.
14:31So, yeah, man. Just always being cautious about things like that, but everything's good.
14:35I was full participant. Good. Everyone's got something. It's early.
14:38It's week three. You guys are heading to Cleveland.
14:41Talk to me about your defense, because week one was what it was.
14:4559 points. You flush it. You move on. Week two, much better.
14:49You go to Atlanta. You shut down the Falcons.
14:52So where, Jalen, is the truth? Who are you guys defensively through two weeks?
14:57Yeah, I mean, I think the truth is usually always somewhere in the middle.
15:01I think, you know, for us, can't get too low from the first game.
15:06Can't get too high from the second game. Obviously, the second game is how we want to play.
15:12That's the identity we want to put on the field.
15:15The turnovers, the physicality, you know, taking advantage of momentum, all those things.
15:19Like, it's still a lot of things to improve on, but, you know, definitely trying to, you know, reach that every single week.
15:26But I think it's important for us not to, like I said, get too high and think that we've made it just
15:33because we, you know, had a really good game.
15:36I think it's important for us to just improve every week.
15:40Big picture. I feel like that's a trend around the league.
15:43Like we say, week one is a liar and week two tells the truth.
15:48But then after two weeks, I think all of us, whether it's your team or the 31 other teams, kind of have
15:55to sit here and go, okay, well, really, who are we?
15:59Do you guys have those same conversations? Yeah. I mean, I think that we're constantly trying to find who we are just
16:06in our everyday, you know, practice meetings, just getting closer as a group.
16:10I know I think that we're starting to find our identity and I think it helps when we have games that we
16:17had last week, just in terms of seeing kind of the example of like what we want to achieve and just really
16:24kind of getting all together and pursuing that together.
16:27But, you know, it's a long season and definitely can't tell what the end of the season is going to look like, you know, after two weeks.
16:36No, you can't. That's why we play the games in that highlight rip there from Atlanta.
16:41We showed Devin Lloyd running wild. Your coach, Dave Canales said it was the best game he has ever seen from a linebacker.
16:48He had the sack. He had the two picks.
16:51One of them went for a pick six. Where would you rank that game that Devin Lloyd had?
16:57Yeah, I mean, I'll second what Coach said. I mean, honestly, I knew early in the game.
17:02I don't want to be like LeBron where he's like, oh, I knew that.
17:07But truthfully, like I knew after his sack, I knew that.
17:10I was like, I think he's in a mode.
17:13Like, you know when the pitch is throwing a perfect game and you don't talk to him on the bench?
17:20It was kind of a situation like that. Like I kind of looked over at him and I was like, he's having a crazy game right now.
17:28And then he went back out and had the pick and went back out.
17:33I was like, oh my God, he's going crazy right now.
17:36I can't even. So, man, I just Devin Lloyd, man.
17:40I could go on for days talking about him.
17:43But just love him as a guy. Love him as a leader.
17:46Outstanding football player. I'm definitely grateful that he's on my team.
17:50Yeah. And you guys are obviously two huge pieces here for this defense.
17:54Went out in the off season, tried to build the side up because the offense is cooking right now.
18:0071 points. Not all, obviously, from the offense. We had a pick six there that we just saw.
18:06What has made this offense click and why? Let me focus on the quarterback because, you know, he's the shiny object.
18:13How is Bryce dealing right now like he's dealing?
18:16I think it's his execution. I've been seeing this from OTAs.
18:19Obviously, it's been years of work. But from what I've seen since when I came in, I think, you know, every day he brings the same intensity.
18:28He brings the same execution. He has a high level of care.
18:32He's a super consistent guy on and off the field.
18:35And so, like, truthfully, what he's putting out there right now is just accumulation of all the work that he's done in the off season.
18:43So, it's really cool to see. And it's impressed me a lot, honestly.
18:47Like, you know, I obviously competed against him once or twice.
18:51I think once, actually. But seeing it up close in person, I mean, I'm super impressed.
18:56I think he's an outstanding quarterback. And you've sacked him once.
19:00I looked that up. You sacked him when you were with the Eagles.
19:04You got to him. I was a good one.
19:07Help me out here because I am saying this, and this is camera tricks here, as a small person.
19:13Okay? Roll with me. You guys, and I'm going to be at your game.
19:17The Panthers media notes go out of their way to say how big of a team you have.
19:23You guys are the tallest team in the league, and you're the second heaviest team in the league.
19:29Dan Morgan's got it tight. You guys are huge.
19:32Yet, conversely, you have probably the smallest quarterback in the league.
19:35Do you ever notice the dichotomy here? You guys are like an NBA team.
19:40And then there's Bryce. Yeah. Is that an actual fact that we're the tallest in second?
19:45You guys, according to the Panthers media notes and NOP are sitting right there.
19:50You guys are the tallest team in the league and the second heaviest team in the league by like a half pound.
19:57That's insane. That's pretty cool. But no, that's a funny question.
20:00I mean, honestly, the stature aspect of it, like I don't see that negatively impacting his game at all.
20:06Like, I think he's incredibly shifty and I've never seen him have any problems seeing anything or doing whatever.
20:12So, I mean, I guess it's, it's, that is an interesting comparison when you look at how tall and big we all are.
20:20And then, you know, obviously he's on the shorter side, but truthfully, I think he kind of uses it to his advantage.
20:27Like he's super elusive in the pocket, crazy arm slots.
20:30Like he's just, he's a tough, tough guy to play against.
20:34Finally, it's been well documented. You come from a family of musicians.
20:38You dabble in the music world yourself here. You've talked openly about how that has helped you get through some of the
20:45tougher times here medically and coming back from injuries.
20:48Out of curiosity, what's on the Jalen Phillips playlist these days?
20:51Like what, what should I, what should I be going to Spotify and adding to my playlist?
20:57Uh, well, honestly, I'm not listening to a ton of music right now because I'm a new dad and obviously busy at
21:04work and I got a lot going on. I'm watching a lot of anime right now, but before the games and stuff,
21:11I just listen to Frank Doge right now, honestly, like calm vibes.
21:15I'll throw on blonde or a channel orange. I have those two albums from Frank Ocean.
21:20Um, and then if, if I'm trying to like, have myself up a little bit, I always go, gonna, future.
21:26Uh, it's, it's pretty basic as I, you know, I don't have any like, uh, deep cut pools for you right now.
21:33Like any like, you know, good seventies, eighties alternative of psychedelic rock or anything.
21:38But, uh, I do listen to that on occasion, but you know, right now it's just Frank Ocean.
21:44Um, I get it, man. New dad and in season.
21:47That is a lot to handle. So good luck with that.
21:50And good luck this week, week three in Cleveland.
21:53Thanks Jalen for joining us. Appreciate it. So the Panthers are getting to the Browns.
21:58The Browns last week went to Tampa and beat Baker and the Buccaneers who are now 0 and 2.
22:04And if you go back to last year, because that's how we do these things, they have lost 9 of 11.
22:11They get the Vikings this week. It is only September and we're already talking about sense of urgency.
22:17I think, um, you know, when you like, like I said, especially offensively, just getting out of runway, not having any, uh,
22:24self-inflicted wounds, you know, the sense of urgency to get that stuff corrected has definitely been there.
22:29Energy level has been good all week. So just got to continue that.
22:34And it's, it needs to translate to Sunday. And that's the biggest thing.
22:38You know, we feel like we've had good weeks of practice, but it's got to translate.
22:43Guys need to do their job on Sundays. So Wednesday, we showed you all the 2 and 0 teams today.
22:49We flip it around. We show you all the 0 and 2 teams.
22:54There are eight of them, including Baker and the Buccaneers.
22:57I thought I heard Lance Zerline in the background go, hmm.
23:00When I said they've lost 9 of 11, Lance is back with us.
23:04The heart and soul of NFL.com. Lance level of concern here for the Buccaneers.
23:09High, very high red alert. Kurt, you mentioned 2 and 9 in the last 11.
23:14How about during that timeframe, 14 touchdown passes for Baker and 15 turnovers, including five, you know, 11 of 10 interceptions and five fumbles.
23:22That's just not going to cut it. He has not played very good football since the midpoint last year.
23:28And it scares me even more because Mike Evans, one of the most consistent wide receivers that you or I have seen during our lifetimes.
23:36He's gone. He's a future Hall of Famer gone.
23:39Levante David, probably a future Hall of Famer. He's gone as well as press corner Jamel Dean.
23:44So you've lost some critical pieces. And now you have a quarterback that's going to have a ton of pressure on his shoulders because of that new contract.
23:53I'm concerned for the Tampa Bay Bucs, especially because of the losses of the Cavaliers.
23:58They have Levante David Jamel Dean and of course Mike Evans.
24:02They certainly miss Mike Evans somewhat ironically. You had Denzel Boston.
24:05They're scoring touchdowns who some have come to Mike Evans.
24:08All right, let's move on to the Chargers here because they are also Owen 2 and this really is not open to debate.
24:16The Chargers are the most disappointing team in the NFL through two weeks.
24:20Granted, it is very early, but listen to the reaction Wednesday from Justin Herbert when he was asked, and I think this was triggering, about his leadership style.
24:29I think our team is so close, and so I don't think there's a lack of vocal leadership at all.
24:35So I think I'm going to stop you right there and say that it's very present.
24:41We've got great leadership on this team, and I trust those guys in that locker room.
24:46And so I don't think anyone is panicked or worried because that's not going to do us any good.
24:52It's moving on to the next play and understand that we're close.
24:56We've made mistakes. How do we fix them? And how do we move on?
25:00Thank you. Kind of touched a nerve, Lance. They are Owen 2.
25:04They have the third-worst point differential in the NFL, and they're going to Buffalo, and all the Bills do is score touchdowns.
25:11Right. Level of concern, sir? Extraordinarily high, and it's basically because of the schedule.
25:16Look, this is a team that I thought was going to win the AFC West.
25:20I really liked the addition of Mike McDaniel as the play caller, but up to this point, it has been bad offensively.
25:28Now, look, guard-centered guard is not good enough right now for the Chargers.
25:32They're not running the ball effectively enough. That's going to have to be one of the keys.
25:37And then melding Mike McDaniel's offensive style with Jim Harbaugh is really going to be an interesting challenge early on.
25:44But, you know, it just doesn't get any easier, and this is why my level of concern is so high.
25:50Four of your next five are on the road, including against the Bills, the Seahawks, the Chiefs, and the Rams.
25:57In between that road sandwich, you've got the Chiefs, or rather the Broncos, and then when you're done with that five-game set, the Texans are coming into home.
26:06So, you know, there's just, they've got one sack defensively.
26:09There is a lot to be concerned about with the Chargers, and I think that schedule is maybe number one.
26:15All right, the Bills, if maybe this is any hope for the Charger fans here, the Bills have given up 30 in each game.
26:23No one has ever gone to 3-0 by giving up 30 in three consecutive games, so maybe the Charger offense gets right.
26:30I have no idea. Can the Texans' defense get right?
26:33Let's show some of these stats. Also, consider the fact that they have played two very tough opponents in Josh Allen of
26:40the Bills and Joe Burrow and the Bengals. But Lance, you're in Houston.
26:45There is a big difference now between D'Amico Ryan's defense through these two weeks and D'Amico Ryan's defense to start last year.
26:52Level of concerns is what? It's low for me, and I'll tell you why.
26:56Number one, this is not the most difficult division in the AFC South right now.
27:01It could change very, very rapidly, but we need to see that happen.
27:05And D'Amico Ryan's Texans teams have gotten off to 0-2 starts in three of the last four years.
27:11It hasn't stopped them from making the playoffs. I think C.J.
27:15Stroud has played good football the last two weeks, the first two weeks of the season.
27:20He's played well. The game against Josh Allen, you tip your cap.
27:24I mean, he was just unbelievable. And then, you know, the reality is you held the Cincinnati Bengals' explosive offense to 20 points.
27:31So that's not bad for the defense. They have not yet been able to create a turnover.
27:36So I think those things are going to normalize, and we'll have that regression to the mean for the Houston Texans.
27:43But the real problem is going to be if they can't get Niko Collins back because they're going to have a hard
27:50time putting the ball in the paint if Niko doesn't make it back.
27:54He's not back this week. It doesn't look like against the Colts.
27:58Glad you mentioned him. He is still out with a hamstring injury.
28:02He is a massive loss for that team, certainly as they go to Indianapolis and they take on Daniel Jones and the Colts.
28:10They compared Daniel Jones to Joe Burrow this week, which is something.
28:13Ooh! Thank you, Lance Zerline. Coming up next, Bijan Robinson of the Falcons.
28:18Can they finally get the offense going? He's in the end zone.
28:22They have yet to get in the red zone this year.

28:49Xavier McKinney and company, among others, here as the Packers look to extend their opening game.
28:54Their home opener winning streak to 14. Michael Penix is back for the Falcons.
28:58Let's get some quick hits here. Kyle Juszczyk says he was fined for this celebration.
29:03He was drinking juice, he says. Not beer. Not beer.
29:06He's not chugging a beer. His name is Juszczyk.
29:09His nickname is Juice. Everything he has in his locker says Juice on it.
29:14The fans go juice. Regardless, he was fined. Assume he would appeal.
29:18From Chug to Chubb. Nick Chubb, who a couple of weeks ago announced his retirement is coming back to Cleveland on Friday to sign a one-day contract.
29:26Smile for the cameras. Have a press conference and retire as a Cleveland brought fittingly.
29:31It is alumni weekend in Cleveland. Alex Mack and Brian Brennan from that great 80s team.
29:36Brennan, that is not Mack, are getting honored. Nick Chubb is in town as well.
29:41Love Kenny Moore. He is back. He is siding with the Eagles.
29:45The former Colt, who thinks far bigger than football, has updated his LinkedIn profile.
29:50He's got a new job. Congratulations, Kenny. I'm Andrew Siciliano.
