1:42Next on the NFL Report, we are presented to you by Nationwide.
1:46Hi there. Welcome to a Tuesday, soon-to-be Week 3 edition of the NFL Report.
1:50From our studios in Los Angeles, my name is Andrew Siciliano.
1:54Coming up, why is it news? It may not be good news in Chicago, we have read.
1:59But for now, let's do our latest headlines. What is news to me right out of the gate?
2:05It's out of New York, and it is not good.
2:08There is a chance Jackson Dart is out for the year.
2:11That knee injury last night, the one in which GM Joe Shane said he's going to be okay to Laura Rutledge, is reportedly worse than initially thought.
2:20John Harbaugh, though, at 3 p.m. Eastern, would not give us a timeline or would not say he's out for the year.
2:27I'm not the person who's hurt, you know, so I'm not the doctor either.
2:32So I'm privy to it. I kind of know some of it.
2:36I don't know all of it. And I certainly am not in position to be reporting on it.
2:41That's not really for me to do. I'd like to give you more.
2:45You know, I just can't. It's not right. Wouldn't be right.
2:49All right. He says it wouldn't be right, but it would be right to bring Nick Shook into the show here.
2:56Jameis Winston time. It seems right, at least for the interim.
2:59Jameis started two games last year for the Giants.
3:02They lost them both. He's fun. He's fun. But it's not Jackson Dart.
3:06No, it's not Jackson Dart. It comes with more risk.
3:10It's you can still produce offensively. But those two losses you mentioned, both one score losses.
3:15So they'll still be competitive. This is why you pay Jameis Winston the two year, $13 million contract that extension that they handed him earlier in September.
3:23It's because in case you have to break glass in case of emergency, you can trust a guy like Jameis Winston.
3:30Now the downside is last night's performance kind of showed us that perhaps he wasn't entirely prepared to play against the Rams
3:37defense that generated a ton of pressure against this Giants offensive line.
3:41But with a week to prepare, maybe you hope that it'll work out just fine for the Giants.
3:47It's not going to be as good as it would be with Jackson Dart.
3:51Did you have them as a playoff contender with Jackson Dart?
3:55I had them as somebody who could make things interesting.
3:58Even after the Cowboy win? Needed to see more.
4:01Needed to see more. Week one's weird. Week one's weird.
4:04Week two, everything kind of comes back to earth.
4:07It kind of normalizes things. But after seven plays losing Jackson Dart, nothing is normal.
4:12Last year, as mentioned, Owen, two years ago, Jameis Winston, two and five with the Browns.
4:17But that included a 497 yard game, a 395 yard game.
4:20As I said, it's fun. It'll be a wild ride.
4:24That's why you pay him. But it is a gut punch.
4:27If there is a giant fan in your life, please give him a hug.
4:32Rams fans were hugging each other last night. They were so happy that Aaron Donald is back.
4:37Aaron Donald coming out of the tunnel. I was in the building.
4:41It gave you chills. It was fun. And the Rams look back to normal.
4:45Matthew Stafford, sidearm here. To Devontae Adams. That is a 35 year old quarterback to a 33 year old wide receiver to a 35 year old defensive tackle.
4:54And Aaron Donald making a stop. A TFL taking down Najee Harris.
4:58And that's what the Giants had in mind, right?
5:01Jameis Winston handing it off to Najee Harris week number two.
5:05But that's what it was. And then here Stafford to Adams again.
5:09Stafford now sixth on the all time touchdown passing list.
5:12Devontae Adams had a hundred and ninety five yards receiving Rams romp 28 to six.
5:17It was a night for the aged. He made some great contested catches.
5:21I thought he ran good routes and separated, but you know, the level of difficulty on some of the throws and catches
5:28that that those guys made, you know, the end of the half cut, you know, catch the second touchdown.
5:34There was some really cool stuff that though. Even the first touchdown, you know, to be able to wait for him to
5:41clear that second window and go up and get that.
5:44There was a lot of good stuff that those guys did.
5:48The back shoulder kind of fade in the middle of the field.
5:52There was a lot of really cool connections that those guys had.
5:55And a lot of it was a reflection of good protection that allowed us to be able to sit in there and
6:02sometimes take a second and third hitch. Pretty impressive to be almost off a thousand days.
6:08Come back and play a defensive line position. 30 plus snaps make your, you know, impact felt tremendously still eliciting double and
6:15triple teams because of who he is. And that's Aaron Donald for you.
6:19Never ceases to amaze me. And he was amazing.
6:22The electricity in the building was amazing. And this was the Rams team that we thought we would see all off season.
6:29Are they okay? Like our reports of their demise greatly exaggerated or this is a banged up Giants team and it doesn't matter.
6:36I think it's greatly exaggerated. I think a lot of what had to do with the Rams in week one was the
6:43travel was the rust and Aaron Donald coming in makes a difference with this defensive front.
6:48Yes, he didn't have the greatest stat line performance, but he made a difference.
6:53Six different Rams had at least two quarterback pressures.
6:56Byron Young, Josiah Stewart, Tyler Davis, Kobe Turner, DeJuan Johnson and Braden Fisk.
7:00That is a unit working together. And then offensively, you know what you get.
7:04Matthew Stafford to Devonta Adams. No Puka Nakua. No problem because the two vets hooking up for big numbers in a runaway win.
7:12So I think Rams fans should feel a lot better about where their team stands after this week.
7:17And yeah, you can discount a little bit because of the banged up Giants offensively, but the Rams were clearly the better team.
7:25And now they get a third game in primetime or a game in a standalone window.
7:30They had the Australia game that was obviously domestic primetime early in the morning in Australia than this one.
7:36And now they have to go to Denver for a Sunday night, but that's still without Miles Garrett and still potentially without Puka Nakua.
7:44We do not know. Let's give you the update on him because he was a late scratch.
7:49We found out 90 minutes before the game that Nakua could not go.
7:53I said yesterday it's a groin. Technically, it's a hip.
7:57Your hip is connected to your groin. Obviously, you could play operation if you want to.
8:02No operation needed. Sean McVay said Tuesday morning, but he is still not willing to say whether or not Nakua is going
8:09to be able to good going to be able to go on Sunday night in Denver.
8:14All right, let's get to the Packers because they play on Thursday night and they are going to be without their right tackle.
8:21You used to know him as Zach Tom. He's now known as Zach Bacobiweli.
8:26He is out for the year. He needs surgery on his knee.
8:30It is a torn patellar, which is just brutal for the Packers with an already banked up offensive line.
8:36Anthony Belton, Matt LaFleur says, is your right tackle on Thursday.
8:39And we can tell you that Michael Penix is your quarterback for the Falcons.
8:44There is some hope in Atlanta tonight because Penix is going to make his debut Thursday.
8:49It is official. Now, he didn't play weeks one or two, so he didn't play Sunday, but they were ready to say
8:56immediately thereafter on Monday that he's good to go for the first time since November.
9:01I made a decision actually on Monday, Monday morning.
9:04I talked to coach Sunday after the game, you know, just let him know how the back end of the last week
9:11went and, you know, that I was feeling, feeling pretty good.
9:14And, you know, Monday morning came around and, you know, I felt very confident with this week.
9:20I felt very confident in my knee and, you know, how it's been feeling, like I said, towards the back end of the week last week.
9:28So, that's how it happened. So, Penix is up, but A.J.
9:32Terrell is going to be down. So, another huge hit to that Falcons defense.
9:36He went on IR today with a groin injury.
9:39We haven't heard from Kevin Stefanski on Tuesday, so we don't know how long Terrell is going to be out.
9:45Remember, already know Jalen Walker, he's out for the year.
9:49Deshaun Hand out for the year. Both of them are on IR as the Falcons defense continues to take hits in three straight games in primetime.
9:57For now, week five could flex for the Falcons.
10:00Sam Darnold is expected back in some capacity at practice this week for the Seahawks.
10:05Don't know if he's going to play. If not, it's another week for Drew Locke, who would make his 30th career start.
10:12He threw three touchdowns for Mike McDonald Sunday in Arizona.
10:15I didn't sense much, like, difference in the attitude or the emotion of the team last week, which is a tremendous compliment to Drew.
10:23And the things he's been able to do day in and day out, the types of practices and type of football he's
10:30played on on the practice field throughout training camp, throughout his opportunities in the preseason.
10:34So I sense a lot of confidence in what he brings to the table.
10:39And I think I said this morning, but like, you know, Drew can play really great football, but he also does it
10:46in his kind of personality and his style, which is what we want from our quarterbacks, which is exciting.
10:52And I think the players saw the best version of him out on the field.
10:57We'll find out more about Darnold on Wednesday. We'll find out more about the Bears quarterback situation as well.
11:03This one came out of nowhere today. Tyson Bajin is in the concussion protocol, and his status for Monday is very much up in the air.
11:11If Caleb Williams can't go and Bajin can't go, you're looking at Case Keenum against the Eagles in primetime on Monday night.
11:18Let's talk about the Chargers. It is one thing to be 0-2.
11:22It is another thing for this new Mike McDaniel offense to be the fourth worst EPA offensive.
11:28It is offensive in the NFL. Jim Harbaugh, your thoughts?
11:31Growth, growing pains? Yeah, we got some growing pains.
11:34And we're attacking it. Do you feel like those could have been, like how could those growing pains have been avoided?
11:40Yeah, I mean, in hindsight right now we're just moving forward, Chris.
11:44And as I said, where we can improve something, you know, with urgency, you know, plus belief in each other and what
11:51we're doing, that will lead to sustained improvement. Oh boy, look at the schedule.
11:56Because you were supposed to be 2-0. You had the Cardinals and the Raiders.
12:00Fear not, now you just have to play the Bills, the Seahawks, the Broncos, the Chiefs.
12:05You get a break, and then you get the Rams in your own building, but it's a road game.
12:12The Texans and the Ravens. NFL.com's Nick Shook back with us.
12:15Where is there a win there? I don't spot one outside of the bye week.
12:20It's going to be really difficult for this team.
12:23And a big reason is because they need to clean things up.
12:27They've had 15 penalties accepted against them for over 100 yards in their first two games.
12:32It's a 1-5 turnover margin loss in their first two games.
12:35Herbert had his first career game with three turnovers in that loss to the Raiders.
12:40They scored less than 20 points in five straight games going back to last season, including the playoffs.
12:46Everything looks bad. And the thing is about this offense is Mike McDaniel comes in.
12:51We think this is going to be a complex running scheme.
12:54They got the running backs to do it. They got the offensive line to do it if they're healthy.
13:00Hasn't looked like it. They haven't been clean. Joe all that for false start penalties in this game on Sunday matched up against Max Crosby.
13:08So the things you could count on aren't working well for this team, which means there's so much to correct.
13:15And there's no break coming with this schedule like we saw on the screen at Buffalo at Seattle versus Denver and at Kansas City.
13:22That's a brutal four weeks and it only gets tougher from there.
13:26Where are you on the blame? I know we have injuries right now.
13:30Everything is on the quarterback. There was one of those picks in which David Njoku had it and he just volleyballed it
13:38up in the air for an INT. There are those that want to absolve Herbert of blame.
13:43You say? It's kind of in between because while some interceptions like the one that you mentioned that went off of Njoku's hands, they were not his fault.
13:52It was good balls, good placement, good situation. But there were others in which he takes a deep shot against the Cardinals in week one.
14:00That's unnecessary into double coverage gets intercepted. There's one where he tries to throw into a closing window late in this game
14:07against the Raiders intercepted by Hezekiah Masses, his second pick of the day.
14:11So it's a multitude of issues and it's not just your quarterback because he's still Justin Herbert, but nothing's going well for this offense right now.
14:20No. And look, he has the talent to turn it around.
14:23Mike McDaniel is a talented coach. He could turn it around.
14:270-2 is not the end of the world, but you were supposed to go into this brutal stretch in your schedule at a minimum 1-1, right?
14:35That would have been surprising to most. It should have been 2-0.
14:39By the way, tip of the cap to both the Cardinals and the Raiders.
14:43You won those games fair and square. Actually, you dominated at times.
14:47Coming up next. Are you all shook up? Yeah, we are.
14:51And so are the Steelers. What's wrong in Pittsburgh?
14:54Our week two notebook shook with the observations straight ahead.
14:57The new NFL season is here and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
15:04Last year we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold on the field after the game.
15:08But that was last year. If you're a football sicko like me, NFL Daily is your kind of show.
15:14It is in the name. NFL Daily. Fresh content in your feed every day, all season long.
15:20Matthew Stafford coming off his MVP season. Big time trades that shake up the NFL.
15:25A.J. Brown is loose. And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trophy.
15:31The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60. They are bringing the Lombardi back to the Northwest.
15:36If it's happening on a football field, NFL Daily will cover it.
15:39Listen to NFL Daily on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
15:45I'm Brett Coleman. And I'm Trevor Sikama. Have you ever watched a game and wondered what really made the difference beyond the final score?

17:44Does fantasy dominance sound appealing to you? Listen to the NFL Fantasy Football Show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
17:53If you're watching the NFL Report here on NFL Channel, let's get to the Ravens.
17:58They did it again, friends. They blew a lead.
18:01They were up 14-3 at home, home opener, cool uniform, and the Saints came back at the same point in the game.
18:08Now, Jesse Minner has to take the team to Brazil to play the Cowboys.
18:12Our guys play really hard. They play physical. But at the same time, we need to find a way again to, you know, all three phases.
18:20To me, you know, you have chances to break the game open at different times or finish the game off at different times.
18:28Obviously, we weren't able to do that. So, an area of focus for us going forward.
18:33Get a great opportunity this week to travel to Brazil, play against a really good Cowboys team.
18:38So, we'll kind of have a normal practice Wednesday, Thursday.
18:42We'll fly there Thursday evening. Get there Friday morning.
18:44Have kind of a focus of, obviously, recovering from the long flight as we're there on Friday.
18:50Get some work done like we would on a Friday.
18:53And then be ready to roll on Sundays. Evidently, no one has told Jesse Minner you can't keep hitting the table like that.
19:00It affects the audio quality. That's Nick Shook, NFL.com.
19:03I'm Andrew Siciliano. Just context there for the Ravens since 2019 when Lamar Jackson took over.
19:09The Ravens have lost, and this is most of the NFL, 15 games in which they've had a double-digit lead at any point.
19:16Nick's observations from week two. He is all shook up.
19:19Not a Ravens observation, but how about the Saints?
19:22Saints, scrappy team. They deserve all the credit in the world for winning that game in Baltimore.
19:27They came back from a multi-score deficit in the second half.
19:31And for the second straight week, they mounted this comeback effort in the second half of a game and hoped to finish it.
19:38This time they did. It was Chris Olave. It was Tyler Schuch going to his favorite target.
19:44Schuch was fantastic no matter what the Ravens did.
19:47He was 10-13 for 113 yards against the Blitz.
19:50The kid has all kinds of courage. He's tough as nails.
19:53Scores the game-winning touchdown on a fourth and goal sneak in which he gets bent backward.
19:58I love watching this team. They're greater than the sum of their parts.
20:02Kellen Moore has them playing excellent football right now, and they've earned a win that they certainly deserve.
20:08I mean, you say get bent backward. He almost got his eye gouged out.
20:13A little face mask. He was bleeding. Yeah, there was no flag on the face mask.
20:18There should have been. He's bleeding around the eye.
20:21It looked like he got punched in the eye.
20:24And now the Saints, the Scrappy Saints, get the Raiders in New Orleans.
20:28I mean, that is a sneaky good game this week.
20:31Yes, yes. After just two weeks, the Raiders are 2-0 and they're a very fun team to watch.
20:37This is going to be very interesting an examination of which of these two upstarts are better so far.
20:43The Steelers are not good offensively. Let's do that one.
20:46A Nick Schuch observation on another 1-1 team. A team that survived week one against the Falcons who have no offense and
20:53then went to New England and were exposed. They basically had no offense in week two against the Patriots.
20:59They made the Patriots defense look like gangbusters and it was capped off with a defensive touchdown for New England.
21:06Look, the Steelers through two weeks, the numbers are bad.
21:09Their last in offensive success rate at 33.6%. Comparatively, Buffalo leads the league at 56.6%.
21:14That's a huge gap between those two. And last year, their numbers were somewhere in between.
21:19And we know Steeler fans were frustrated with that offense.
21:22Right now, it's a team that can't pass protect well.
21:25They can't run the ball effectively. DK Metcalf has had a terrible start to this season.
21:30They just don't mount much of a challenge for opposing defenses.
21:34And we thought in week one, well, maybe Atlanta's defense is just really good.
21:38Not to take anything away from the Patriots, but two weeks of bad results from this Steelers offense that's more aggressive but less productive.
21:46I'm not feeling great about him right now. Yeah, I would call him DKF Metcalf.
21:51He wears the number four and he's had four huge, huge drops.
21:55I'm not making excuses for Aaron Rodgers. But those four drops changed the tone of this offense.
22:00And now they get the Bengals. Cincinnati's coming to town at 2-0, riding high with a defense that no one can do anything against right now.
22:08That could get ugly. Yeah, it's not going to look good.
22:12And I mean, you talk about DK Metcalf's drops.
22:15He also probably got interfered with in week one, but that changed the momentum of that offense then as well.
22:21They're just not strong enough to overcome it right now.
22:24And Aaron Rodgers, for as aggressive as he's been, when he drops back, he's letting it fire.
22:30Half the time they're not very accurate. So a lot of concerns here.
22:34Yes, aggressive on the field, passive aggressive off the field in which he says that he has to do a better job
22:41at telling Mike McCarthy how to do a better job.
22:44And then you have the 49ers who look, they look kind of sort of like the best team in football.
22:51Let's focus on the quarterback. Brock Purdy is almost perfect in two weeks.
22:55Almost perfect. I checked his stats before we did this show and I was thinking, OK, well, his numbers have to be very good.
23:03No, he has the highest completion percentage in football through two weeks.
23:06And you can look at this schedule and say, well, they played a potentially fatigued Rams in week one in Australia and they were there for a week.
23:15So maybe they have the advantage. No, they played the Dolphins in week two, but I can't look past these numbers.
23:22Brock Purdy, completion percentage over expected plus 11.1%. That's the best in the NFL with a minimum of 40 dropbacks.
23:29And his passing EPA is third best behind only Josh Allen and Dak Prescott, two household names.
23:34So when people say Brock Purdy deserves to be in the MVP conversation, the numbers kind of back it up.
23:40But we'll see how well they fare going forward.
23:43OK, because it is the quarterback and not the system here when you say MVP conversation, because you're going to get pushback.
23:50Yes, of course. But also we end up getting a lot of MVPs that are just the best player or the quarterback on one of the best teams.
23:59Of course, completion percentage over expected. We could do an entire show on that.
24:04Nick knows how I feel about over expected. We'll do that another time.
24:08I expect the Niners to be pretty good in the power rankings coming up.
24:13We have the new power rankings that Nick put together.
24:16Where are the Niners and where are the Chiefs?
24:19Because they should be pretty tight, right? I don't know.
24:22Maybe not. It's coming up next on the NFL Report.
24:25All right, you're watching the NFL Report. Can I give you a friendly reminder to go get NFL Plus?
24:31NFL Plus Premium gets your red zone and it gets game replays.
24:35NFL red zone and game replays. And you can track advanced analytics powered by NGS Next Gen Stats with NFL Pro.
24:42I have them all. It's what I use on Sunday coming home from games.
24:46It is invaluable. Sign up today at plus.nfl.com slash fast.
24:49Terms and conditions always apply. Also, you can watch power rankings as well on the NFL channel.
24:55Nick Shook's new one, Hot Off The Trenches, also on NFL.com.
24:58The Seahawks are one, the Bills are two. The Bengals, the Ravens, the Niners.
25:03I've seen some power rankings where the Niners are one.
25:06Nick Shook hates the Niners. He has them at seven.
25:09You could follow Nick on X and Instagram. Go ahead, hit him up.
25:13We're not going to mess with the faithful today, but we will ask you about the Chiefs.
25:19You have them going from ten to four. That's a hefty jump.
25:23There's a big reason Patrick Mahomes is back. The concerns about his agency.
25:27Oh, you didn't know he was back? No. Week one, I don't know.
25:31His movement, I wasn't so certain. And he didn't start well as a passer.
25:36He was excellent in week two against the Colts.
25:39He could do no wrong. He was hitting deep shots.
25:42He was moving the offense. He was taking off with his legs a little bit, especially late in this game.
25:48He's a main reason, him and Kenneth Walker, why they were able to win this game.
25:53And Kenneth Walker is the main reason why I moved them up the list, because now they have a balanced offense.
26:00They can be multiple. They can attack you from a number of different situations and angles, and their defense is just as aggressive as ever.
26:08So I love what they're doing so far. The Chiefs are back, folks.
26:12I'm sorry, but they're back. And they're going to be 3-0.
26:16Not that there's a guarantee. Please, recreational purposes only.
26:19They go to Miami this week, and they get the Dolphins.
26:22That should not move them up in the power rankings.
26:25I'm just saying. However, tune in next week, and tune in for Nick Schrook's power rankings later on NFL Channel.
26:32Let's get some quick hits in here. Kenny Moore, who is here at NFL Network going through our broadcast boot camp in the offseason.
26:39He is back. He's back playing football. No need to go to TV.
26:44He's signing in Philadelphia. The corner of the former Colt gets a deal that could be up to $3 million worth of American money.
26:51Can we just do a whole thing on guys that thought about broadcasting and are now playing football?
26:57Zach Ertz was doing the broadcasting thing, and now he's back in Philadelphia.
27:01He's tweeting that it's back at home because Dallas Goddard is out.
27:05And Zach Ertz, who went to Arizona, who went to Washington, who went to TV, is now going back to Philadelphia.
27:12All three of these guys were here for the NFL's offseason broadcast seminar, including Brandon Cooks.
27:17We connected. I found out he's a big hiker.
27:20I had no idea. There's great hiking in California.
27:23He is signing with the 49ers on their practice squad.
27:26Back on the West Coast. Played at Oregon State.
27:29Played with the Rams. He's played everywhere. Brandon Cooks.
27:32Fantastic. Is with the 49ers. Will Levis is way too young to go through the NFL offseason broadcasting program.
27:38He is going to New York to sign with the Jets practice squad.
27:42They have lots of mayonnaise in New York. Will Levis loves mayonnaise.
27:46The former Titans second round pick and Penn Stater is heading to the Jets.
27:50And Darius Slayton, who was in New York, is heading to the Colts.
27:54With Alec Pierce banged up. He doesn't necessarily need heel surgery, but they need help.
27:59Darius Slayton is signing with the Colts as Pierce could be out multiple weeks.
28:04Johnny Hecker is back. Speaking of Oregon State, the one time Beaver punter and long time NFL punter.
28:10One of the greatest punters of our generation. Let's put it that way.
28:14Johnny Hecker is signing on in Minnesota. Hecker back with the team that released him in August.
28:19We have time for one more thing before we go.
28:22This is fun. This is a field goal in the snow by Hall of Famer Adam Vinatieri.
28:28He kicked it at 11,000 feet at Jungfraujoch in the Alps.
28:31This is a new Guinness World Record for the highest field goal.
28:35Altitude wise, 11,332 feet. Now, as the kids say, and as we said with Hanson yesterday, it kind of looked like AI.
28:42To be honest with you, who built goalposts at 11,300 feet?
28:46How did they get goalposts up to 11,300 feet?
28:49What kind of construction company did they have to pay overtime to get them that high?
28:54And why wasn't the kick longer? You're at altitude.
28:57The air is thinner. It should be traveling higher, right?
29:00I mean, we had everyone talking about Cam Little in Denver on Sunday.
29:04Cam Little is going to break their record. He's got the two longest kicks in the history of the NFL at 68 and 69.
29:12He's going to go for 70. Even Adam Vettetari, who's in his 50s, you would think at 11,000 feet.
29:18Because Denver's 3,800. No, no, 5,300. So you're more than double that.
29:22Couldn't he hit from 70? You would think so.
29:25Although snow might make it a little tougher the footing for the Hall of Famer.
29:29I mean, he did it against the Raiders in the Tumper.
29:33That's Nick Shook. I'm Andrew Siciliano. I want everybody to see you.
