Montgomery is projected to lead the Houston backfield in touches and gives the Texans a physical runner who can help near the goal line. However, he's coming off career lows in touches, yardage and fantasy PPG. Houston finished last in run block win rate last season, ranked 22nd in rushing yards despite being 13th in attempts and ranked near the bottom of the league in yards before contact. The unit has more talent after adding Wyatt Teller, Braden Smith and first-round rookie Keylan Rutledge, but Rutledge is transitioning from college guard to NFL center, which could take time and adds risk. Montgomery's No. 25 positional ADP paints the picture of a relative fantasy bargain. He's coming off his worst season in a supporting role behind Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit, but in his first two years there he placed in the top 15 at the position in fantasy points per game (12th in 2023, 15th in 2024). In Houston, he's expected to serve as the lead back, taking the reins from Woody Marks, and this is his best opportunity for a big rushing workload in three years. He's likely to handle the bulk of goal-line chances and is a plenty capable fantasy RB2.
