Stampede Blue on Josh Downs

Downs fills underneath role but can't replace Pierce's deep-threat and field-opening impact.

Downs serves as the Colts' underneath option in the slot, described as the twitchy receiver the team needs for short-area work. However, without Pierce taking the top off the defense, Downs cannot replicate Pierce's deep-threat capability or the field-opening effect Pierce provides. His role is limited to underneath routes without a complementary deep threat.
