Cousins' job security tightens weekly as Mendoza develops; one loss could trigger a switch.

Cousins has limitations in mobility and arm strength but is operating the offense well and playing well right now; the Raiders are averaging 28.8 points per game (seventh-best in the NFL). However, his leash gets shorter after every week as Fernando Mendoza gets closer to being ready to play, and one bad game could lead to a switch. The source views the situation as more about when the rookie is ready rather than how the veteran is playing.
