NFL: The Insiders on Kirk Cousins

Cousins named Raiders starter; role is to mentor Mendoza until transition.

Cousins is named the current starter for the Raiders by head coach Clint Kubiak, who coached him to a Pro Bowl in Minnesota. Stacy Dales notes Kubiak has stated Cousins will teach and mentor rookie Fernando Mendoza, with the expectation that Mendoza will eventually take over. Cousins is being paid to mentor and lead while Mendoza develops.
