Simpson's role with the Rams is fundamentally different from Mendoza's with the Raiders. He is competing to be the backup to Matthew Stafford, not the starter. With Stetson Bennett already on the roster as a veteran backup, Simpson must prove he can be the number two option. The hope is he does not see the field in regular season play unless disaster strikes the Rams.
