Jeremiah Love, he played 76% of the snaps, 11 of 12 running back touches in the first half... he just doesn't look like Jeremiah Love yet... the ankle injury is probably a bigger issue than we had thought... Kind of like CD Lamb last year... CD Lamb uh has a high ankle sprain. He comes back, he looks decent, but he's never fully himself.
STACKED’s take
Love's ankle injury worse than thought; efficiency metrics terrible, trajectory concerning.
Ankle injury appears to be a bigger issue than initially thought; Love doesn't look like himself yet despite strong usage in Week 3 (20+ touches, touchdown). Ron Stewart compares his trajectory to CeeDee Lamb's high ankle sprain recovery last year—Lamb came back looking decent but was never fully himself. Through five games, Love's efficiency metrics are concerning: 0.55 yards per attempt (terrible), 3.7 yards per carry, only six missed tackles forced (lower than David Montgomery), and longest run of just 18 yards with only two runs of 10+ yards. Love played 76% of snaps and received 11 of 12 RB touches in the first half against Detroit but only 24% of snaps in the second half when the Cardinals fell behind multiple touchdowns. Passing-game role has been inconsistent and limited: three targets in each of the first three games, then one target versus the Giants, and only one target versus the Lions. Stewart notes it's hard to advocate for more routes and targets when yards per attempt is 0.55. Ranked 17th of 23 among first-round running backs since 2010 in rookie performance, sandwiched between Jamir Gibbs (13.3 PPG first five games, 17.6 PPG rest of way), Christian McCaffrey, Doug Martin (11.8 PPG first five, 23 PPG rest of way), and Melvin Gordon (who was a dud as a rookie). Stewart projects Love as a mid-tier RB2 in the short term, with low-end RB2/high-end RB3 floor week-to-week, similar to Trevion Henderson—relying on explosive plays, random touchdowns, or one-off games rather than consistent production. Long-term upside exists as a mid-tier RB1 if fully healthy with consistent workload, but current trajectory is disappointing. Stewart worries this could become a lost season if Love doesn't fully recover.
