McCarthy credits Winston's mentorship for accelerating his Giants offense learning curve.
McCarthy arrived via trade from the Minnesota Vikings three weeks ago and is learning the Giants' offense from Winston. He praised Winston's dual leadership style: 'he leads by example as well as leads vocally.' McCarthy highlighted Winston's unselfish approach and 'unique way of thinking and talking about football that is such a well-rounded, polished version of somebody that's been around so many great minds.' Specifically, Winston spent 30-40 minutes on the board walking McCarthy through front structure and linebacker identification—basic information McCarthy didn't expect a starting QB in Week 5 to teach. McCarthy also witnessed Winston's mature communication style during his first day, observing a conversation between Winston and Isaiah Likely about defensive reads that set a positive tone for the unit.
