They brought in Dave Montgomery for a reason. I'll say that. This was a run game that was absolutely awful on early downs last year.

Montgomery's addition aims to fix the Texans' league-worst early-down run game.

The Texans brought in David Montgomery to improve their run game, which struggled significantly on early downs last season. The team's 28.4% first-down rushing success rate was a league low, forcing them into frequent second-and-long situations. Montgomery is expected to provide better yards after contact, which should help the offense stay on schedule and allow C.J. Stroud to operate more effectively from under center.
