Yahoo Sports NFL on Matthew Golden

Golden ran wrong route on interception play, breaking outside instead of slanting.

Golden was supposed to run a 'Lookie' route from the slot—an option route requiring him to run vertical, stutter, then execute either a slant (if defender has inside or square leverage) or an out route (if defender has outside leverage). On the interception play, Golden ended up square with the linebacker after his stutter but decided to break outside anyway, violating the route design. Head coach Matt LaFleur noted that Golden didn't 'make every effort to cross the defender's face' for the slant, leading to the late throw and interception.
