Video: Everything Just Changed - Week 7
Cam Akers doesn't touch the ball a single time. Effectively gets benched... My take was, 'You for sure don't play Najee Harris. We need to wait a week, see what the usage is in this backfield. If I had to choose somebody, I would choose Cam Akers to still play this week. And dear god, worst call ever. Cam Akers gets you a literal goose egg.'... if I had to choose a running back I want in this back field, I want Cam Akers because I think he's the most talented running back and they'll probably eventually go back to him.

Benched Week 7 (0 touches) despite Pierce's play recommendation; most talented but unreliable

Cam Akers did not touch the ball a single time in Week 7 and was effectively benched, despite Dameon Pierce's recommendation to play him over Najee Harris—a call Pierce describes as his worst ever. Pierce had previously flagged Akers as an avoid pick pre-season due to committee usage concerns and limited receiving involvement. However, Pierce still believes Akers is the most talented back in the Giants committee and expects there's a real possibility they revert to him as lead back next week. Must be rostered despite poor performance, but cannot be trusted to play next week; eventual lead-back role likely but timing uncertain.
