Watkins has golden Week 7 opportunity with Evans out; Purdy wants to increase targets.
Fourth-round pick in 2025 with dynamic skill set for Kyle Shanahan offense; has played 45% of offensive snaps this season and displayed encouraging flashes including 34-yard, 26-yard, and 22-yard receptions; has shown admirable commitment as run-blocker, which has earned him offensive snap trust; faces golden opportunity in Week 7 vs Falcons with Evans out and Kirk returning but potentially not immediately productive; Brock Purdy stated he wants to get Watkins the ball more, noting 'He's definitely a playmaker. He's done that since he's got here' and praising his YAC ability; source assesses Watkins as more likely than Cowing to carve out long-term role in offense.
