From the episode

I don't think he's special. He's fine. He's much more of the inline tight end once Bowers is back. They'll both play a bunch. But while Bowers is out, Mayer kind of has to fill both shoes.

Mayer is a Waller fill-in, not special; inline tight end with limited standalone value.

Mayer is a fill-in option while Darren Waller is out, but the source doesn't view him as special. He's primarily an inline tight end who will share snaps with Waller once healthy. While the Raiders gave him a nice contract, the source is skeptical of his standalone value and sees him more as a one-to-two-week filler depending on Waller's recovery timeline.
