Bo Nix

NegativeProjection6:42

Nix's performance against the Chiefs was poor and uncontrolled; his best throw of the night went to Evan Engram and didn't help the Broncos' fantasy assets. He had a red zone play where he fumbled on a rushed throw that could have been a pick-six, and later couldn't set his feet to hit Sutton on an open deep ball. The source notes this game exemplified the concerns about Nix even when Denver was winning last year—it did not seem better or under control.

Insight page
NegativeProjection8:48

Nix had a disastrous Week 1 performance against Kansas City; he was rattled by Chiefs pressure, fumbled multiple times on shotgun snaps, threw an interception on a miscommunication with Cortland Sutton, and frequently flung passes out of bounds or took sacks. The source notes his best throw of the night was a touchdown pass to Evan Engram, which didn't help fantasy value.

Insight page

Braelon Allen

NegativeUsage33:00

Allen played a fair amount while the game was still competitive and had room to run, but also recorded a drop in the flat that ended the Jets' longest drive of the season so far—an 18-play, nearly 11-minute drive.

Insight page

Breece Hall

PositiveRole32:45

Hall moved well early and had awesome runs in the third quarter, displaying the kind of dynamic play-making ability the source compared to Kenneth Walker's Monday night performance; the source suggests Hall's upside is tied to the Jets' offensive line performing as well as it did in week one.

Insight page
NegativeRole53:51

Hall is mentioned in the context of other running backs who could get hurt, making their backups valuable. He remains a starter but is part of the broader conversation about backup value and injury risk.

Insight page

Brenton Strange

PositiveUsage25:00

Brenton Strange catches a touchdown in Jacksonville's Week 1 blowout; the source notes he's a 'flag player' but takes the touchdown production.

Insight page

Brian Thomas Jr.

NegativeInjury51:04

Thomas made a few catches early in the Jaguars-Browns game, including some impressive plays (sideline catch, tight window throw), but re-injured the shoulder that bothered him throughout training camp and sat out most of the rest of the game. This injury recurrence raises durability concerns heading into Week 2.

Insight page

Caleb Douglas

NegativeUsage31:01

Douglas woke up a little bit late in the second quarter with a few catches to set up a field goal before the half that made it 17-6. While he had the stats, the source cannot see having any Miami receiver very close to starting position for Week 2, though adding Douglas is described as 'an okay idea' for waiver purposes.

Insight page
PositiveBreakout49:04

Douglas showed athleticism, decent hands, and natural body movement on the boundary in Week 1 against the Raiders. He got good volume and many of his catches came underneath coverage where he found gaps without contested situations. The source believes someone will have to be valuable in Miami's passing game and sees Douglas as the one to roll the dice on right now, especially after Malik Washington had a poor game.

Insight page

Cam Ward

NegativeRole34:00

Ward received adequate protection but struggled to let go of the ball, often running out of structure and winging passes out of bounds; despite the Titans being down for the entire game, Ward couldn't manage the game effectively, contributing to Tennessee's offensive dysfunction.

Insight page

Chris Bell

NegativeUsage31:21

Bell caught a deep over route in the third quarter that set up a touchdown run for Willis. However, the source does not see Miami receivers as starting options for Week 2, and Bell is not specifically highlighted as a waiver add.

Insight page
PositiveBreakout50:28

Bell looked like a better waiver add than Malik Washington after Washington's poor Week 1 performance against the Raiders. The source suggests Bell is worth considering in Miami's passing game.

Insight page

Chris Olave

PositiveUsage10:27

Olave was a key target in the Saints' comeback, catching a bomb on a scramble drill to start the comeback drive, making his 10th catch in the game in overtime, and catching a bomb shot inside the 10 in the final drive. He was shaken up and injured but returned multiple times, showing durability and remaining a focal point of the offense despite the injuries.

Insight page
NegativeRole44:56

Alave is the primary receiver for the Saints alongside Devon Vele. With Jordan Tyson out, there's reduced competition for targets.

Insight page

Chris Rodriguez

NegativeUsage26:03

Chris Rodriguez entered the game early and immediately got the third and fourth carries after Basial Tootin's first two plays; he also had a snap at Wildcat quarterback for a first down in the second quarter. Through competitive play, Rodriguez had five carries compared to Tootin's seven, suggesting early-game involvement, though the source notes Jacksonville's backfield will likely be a three-headed monster with LaQuint Allen's return.

Insight page

Christian McCaffrey

NegativeRole51:00

McCaffrey remains the primary back for the 49ers, who looked very good in Week 1. The source notes that if you own McCaffrey, you should be willing to pay a bit more (20-25% FAB) to secure Kaelin Black as insurance, as the offense looked excellent and Black could have flex value even with McCaffrey healthy.

Insight page

Courtland Sutton

NegativeUsage6:47

Sutton was open for a big play later in the Broncos-Chiefs game but Nix couldn't set his feet and make the throw, resulting in no production. The source also notes Sutton had nothing in the game overall, suggesting the Broncos' offensive struggles limited the number-one receiver.

Insight page
NegativeMatchup10:06

Sutton was involved in a miscommunication with Nix that resulted in an interception; Nix expected Sutton to break off his route but threw the ball anyway, leading to a turnover.

Insight page

Darren Waller

NegativeInjury46:55

Waller is out, creating the opportunity for Michael Mayer to fill in as the Raiders' tight end. Mayer will share snaps with Waller once he returns.

Insight page

De'Von Achane

NegativeProjection30:18

Achan is the only Dolphin the source felt good about starting, and Miami gave him all the work he could handle early, including a nice catch on a fade route on third down in the first series. However, on third and one in the second quarter, Miami lined him up in a power look despite it not being his game, and he got stuffed. He finished with 66 yards and never really got close to the end zone. The source states 'things are going to need to get better for Achan to pay off his ADP,' suggesting his draft cost is not justified by his Week 1 performance.

Insight page

Denzel Boston

NegativeUsage50:49

Boston scored a touchdown with two minutes remaining in the game, but the source notes this came when "the dogs having been called off" and was "not that impressive" given the blowout context. The touchdown was more a product of garbage time than meaningful offensive involvement.

Insight page

Deshaun Watson

NegativeProjection49:16

The source describes Watson's performance as "predictably awful," noting he threw a pick on the Browns' first possession, another interception on the second drive directly to a linebacker (who dropped it), and fumbled on the third drive after being sacked. The source explicitly states "I had not yet seen Deshaun Watson" when comparing him unfavorably to Cooper Rush as the worst quarterback observed in Week 1, establishing Watson as a significant downside risk.

Insight page

Dontayvion Wicks

PositiveBreakout54:34

Wicks had one deep ball and one other good play in Week 1, showing promise. However, the source doesn't think the Packers offense looked fixed overall. He's mentioned as an honorable mention receiver waiver option but with less conviction than A.D. Mitchell.

Insight page

Evan Engram

NegativeUsage6:42

Engram was the target on Nix's best throw of the night in the Broncos-Chiefs game, but the source notes this didn't really help anybody—implying the throw was not productive or impactful for fantasy purposes.

Insight page
NegativeRole10:36

Engram caught Nix's best throw of the night for a touchdown in Week 1, but the source notes this didn't really help anybody fantasy-wise, suggesting limited overall involvement in the Broncos offense.

Insight page

Garrett Wilson

NegativeUsage33:16

Wilson took a massive hit on a slant route in the first half when the Jets called a brave play on fourth and two; the source notes the Jets had only two pass attempts traveling 10-plus air yards in the first half, suggesting conservative play-calling that could lead to up-and-down games for Wilson despite his gutty performance.

Insight page

Geno Smith

PositiveRole32:00

Smith had plenty of time in the pocket and rarely had to play out of structure, where the source notes he is an unbelievable disaster; the Jets' offensive line created a stable environment that allowed Smith to operate within the system, suggesting the team's week-one offensive approach was controlled and conservative.

Insight page

Harold Fannin

PositiveUsage50:39

Fannin did not receive a target until one minute remained in the third quarter despite being part of the Browns' offensive plan. The source suggests giving Fannin another week to see if Cleveland corrects this error of not targeting him, implying the Week 1 usage was an anomaly rather than a permanent role reduction.

Insight page

Isiah Pacheco

PositiveProjection5:22

The source revised Pacheco upward significantly after Week 1 performance; initially too low on him at 11-13 pick range, now believes he'd be a top-five pick if redrafting. Pacheco posted nearly 200 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns against Denver, establishing him as the clear focal point of the Chiefs offense.

Insight page

J.K. Dobbins

NegativeRole7:28

Dobbins and R.J. Harvey basically split the Broncos backfield in week one, indicating a committee approach rather than a clear lead-back role.

Insight page

Jack Bech

NegativeUsage28:02

Besh had back-to-back grabs in Week 1 and scored the first touchdown for the Raiders. However, the source does not provide further analysis or projection for him.

Insight page

Jalen Nailor

NegativeUsage27:57

Naylor converted a third down in Week 1 as part of the Raiders' early passing attack. However, the source does not provide further analysis or projection for him.

Insight page
NegativeUsage28:01

Jalen Naylor converts a third down in the Dolphins-Raiders game, indicating early offensive involvement.

Insight page

Jaylen Waddle

NegativeUsage7:16

Waddle caught one pass for two yards and had a significant drop that could have extended a drive in the Broncos-Chiefs game. This minimal production and the drop suggest limited impact in week one.

Insight page

Jordyn Tyson

NegativeInjury44:56

Tyson is on the IR, reducing the mouth to feed in the Saints passing game and creating opportunity for Devon Vele to get work.

Insight page

Josh Cameron

NegativeRole24:48

Rookie Josh Cameron scored a touchdown in the first half that put Jacksonville up 14-0, indicating early offensive involvement in the blowout game.

Insight page

Juwan Johnson

PositiveUsage11:54

Johnson caught the touchdown to tie the game late in regulation, made a sick catch with 10 seconds left that set up a 62-yard field goal attempt, and made another sick sideline catch in overtime. He also got an end zone target in overtime, nearly scoring, demonstrating consistent red-zone involvement and clutch performance in the Saints' comeback.

Insight page

Kaelon Black

NegativeRole51:00

Black got 15 touches in Week 1, with nine coming when the 49ers were either losing tight or up by three—not garbage time. He's the clear backup to Christian McCaffrey and got the yards that were there, described as a short, stocky missile very committed to one direction and very physical. Even with McCaffrey healthy, Black seems to have a real role and could have flex appeal once bye weeks arrive. The source recommends McCaffrey owners pay around 20-25% FAB to secure him, while non-McCaffrey owners should bid lower (10-15%) to avoid overpaying.

Insight page

Kenneth Walker III

PositiveBreakout0:54

Walker dominated the Chiefs' Week 1 win over Denver with 14 carries for 89 yards in the first half, then scored a 60-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-one in the third quarter. Harris notes Walker made "crazy moves" on runs that weren't even well-blocked, confirming his status as a breakaway threat. Despite pre-draft concerns about injury history and usage rate, Harris says Walker's film performance was so impressive that in retrospect he would be a top-five pick, a significant upgrade from his pre-season ranking around 11-13.

Insight page
NegativeRole53:51

Walker is mentioned in the context of other running backs who could get hurt, making their backups valuable. He remains a starter but is part of the broader conversation about backup value and injury risk.

Insight page

Kenyon Sadiq

PositiveUsage32:37

Sadiq scored a close-in touchdown run on a Jets sweep, capitalizing on the team's strong offensive line play and controlled offensive approach in week one.

Insight page
PositiveRole46:55

Sadiq drew a goal-line carry in Week 1 and the team is clearly trying to get him involved. The source views him as a better long-term waiver add than Mayer, especially if he returns healthy from sports hernia surgery and overtakes Mason Taylor. He was on a snap count in Week 1 but has longer-term upside as a potential starter.

Insight page

LeQuint Allen

NegativeDepth Chart26:15

LaQuint Allen is expected to return soon to Jacksonville's backfield, which will create a three-headed monster situation with Basial Tootin and Chris Rodriguez, likely resulting in mixed usage weeks.

Insight page

Malik Benson

NegativeUsage28:02

Malik Benson has a catch in the Dolphins-Raiders game, indicating early offensive involvement.

Insight page

Malik Washington

NegativeBust50:28

Washington had a really bad game in Week 1 against the Raiders and was part of why Miami lost. The source suggests Chris Bell looked like a better add than Washington at this point, though one bad game doesn't necessarily mean the team is punishing him.

Insight page

Malik Willis

NegativeProjection29:36

Willis' performance looked a lot like his Titans days: you can squint and see good plays, but inconsistency is the problem. He would sometimes set his feet with no pass rush around him and appear to see somebody open but absolutely miss the throw. Other times he would make a nice scramble but then throw directly into double coverage against his body. He also committed a delay of game on fourth and seven with four minutes left in the game. The source does not see Willis as a starting option for Week 2.

Insight page

Mason Taylor

NegativeRole46:55

Taylor is the current tight end for the Saints, but Kenyon Sadiq could potentially overtake him if Sadiq returns healthy from sports hernia surgery.

Insight page

Michael Mayer

NegativeUsage28:02

Mayer had two straight first downs in Week 1 as part of the Raiders' early passing attack. However, the source does not provide further analysis or projection for him.

Insight page
NegativeUsage28:04

Michael Mayer has two straight first downs in the Dolphins-Raiders game, indicating early offensive involvement and target share.

Insight page
NegativeRole46:55

Mayer is a fill-in option while Darren Waller is out, but the source doesn't view him as special. He's primarily an inline tight end who will share snaps with Waller once healthy. While the Raiders gave him a nice contract, the source is skeptical of his standalone value and sees him more as a one-to-two-week filler depending on Waller's recovery timeline.

Insight page

Noah Fant

NegativeUsage11:00

Fant was targeted in the end zone and scored a touchdown in overtime, capping the Saints' comeback. The source earlier suggested Fant may have run the wrong route on an interception thrown by Shuck, calling it a Xavier Worthy (running the wrong route), but he still finished with a touchdown in the game.

Insight page

Omar Cooper Jr.

NegativeInjury32:28

Cooper made a big play early in the Jets' first drive to get the ball down close but suffered a high ankle sprain and had to be carted off the field.

Insight page
NegativeInjury42:59

Cooper is now week-to-week with a high ankle sprain, opening up opportunity for A.D. Mitchell to get snaps in the Eagles passing game.

Insight page

Parker Washington

PositiveBreakout24:38

The source is fully sold on Washington after Week 1 film; he made a brilliant diving touchdown grab at full extension in the first possession, followed by a one-handed catch on an over route in the first quarter. The source would rank him significantly higher in summer ranks and put more distance between him and other receivers in the Jaguars receiving core, though notes he's being used on punt returns which is not ideal. Washington stands out as the clear star in Jacksonville's passing game despite the blowout context.

Insight page
PositiveBreakout51:22

The source identifies Washington as "a stud" after watching the Jaguars film, highlighting his first-possession diving grab for a touchdown at full extension and a one-handed catch on an over route in the first quarter. The source emphasizes Washington's play as the standout story from the Jaguars' game, suggesting he is a breakout candidate worth monitoring.

Insight page

Pat Bryant

NegativeRole7:22

Bryant may have been the Broncos' number-one receiver in week one, but he was called for holding twice, limiting his fantasy impact and suggesting offensive line struggles rather than receiving production.

Insight page

Patrick Mahomes

NegativeProjection1:46

Mahomes started the Monday night game poorly, opening 2 for 12 for 14 yards, and the source notes he "didn't play very well" overall. However, he did score a rushing touchdown on the first drive (after an initial one was overturned by penalty) and scrambled effectively despite knee ligament concerns. The source suggests Mahomes' weak passing performance was masked by Denver's offensive struggles and the Chiefs' dominant ground game.

Insight page

Quinshon Judkins

NegativeUsage50:54

Judkins accumulated 50 scrimmage yards in Week 1, though the source notes "even that was merciful" and he was "still out there at the end racking up Basora yards" in garbage time. The source suggests continuing to use Judkins but frames the Week 1 production as inflated by the blowout context.

Insight page

Rashee Rice

NegativeMatchup6:55

Rice was largely erased by Broncos cornerback Riley Moss in Week 1, despite Moss being considered a poor defender; Rice had only one catch the entire night aside from a touchdown run where he ran over Moss right before halftime. The source suggests Rice's performance should improve against non-Denver defenses.

Insight page

Rashod Bateman

PositiveRole55:06

Bateman is mentioned as a deeper-league waiver option for Week 2 specifically. With Jacoby Lane breaking his wrist/arm and Zay Flowers likely to be carefully managed despite optimistic talk, Bateman might actually get work in Week 2. The source views this as a short-term opportunity.

Insight page

RJ Harvey

NegativeRole7:28

Harvey and J.K. Dobbins basically split the Broncos backfield in week one. In the one full red zone possession, Harvey appeared to be the choice, but he did not score because the Broncos' offense failed to score in that situation.

Insight page

Tony Pollard

NegativeUsage33:36

Pollard was very hard-pressed to produce on just eight touches; the Titans were extremely conservative in their play-calling, punted seven times, and ran only 18 plays in the first half, limiting Pollard's opportunity despite him playing more than any other running back on the team.

Insight page

Travis Hunter

NegativeUsage24:58

Travis Hunter had a catch in the first half of Jacksonville's Week 1 blowout win.

Insight page

Travis Kelce

NegativeMatchup5:59

Kelce caught a three-yard pass and turned it into a 60-yard gain after a missed tackle against Denver, but the source treats this as an outlier play rather than evidence of strong performance; the broader Chiefs offense struggled against the Broncos defense.

Insight page

Trevor Lawrence

PositiveProjection25:45

Trevor Lawrence was 'beyond reproach' and 'great' in Jacksonville's Week 1 blowout win, per the source's film review.

Insight page

Xavier Worthy

NegativeRole6:48

Worthy had an awful Week 1 performance against Denver; the source notes he didn't seem to be running the right routes and attributes Mahomes' interception to Worthy's route-running error.

Insight page

Zay Flowers

NegativeInjury55:06

Flowers is unlikely to play in Week 2 despite optimistic team talk. The source expects the Ravens will be careful with him, making him unavailable for fantasy purposes in the near term.

0:00It's the Harris Fantasy Football Podcast with your host, Christopher Harris.
0:04Hey everybody, welcome in. My name is Chris and this show has healthy levels of magnesium.
0:09Hello there, you marvelous, wonderful yacht possums and tapeworms.
0:12How the heck are you today? I have come up from the submarine.
0:16That's what I call it now. We finish off the Sunday morning live stream.
0:21The games begin 10 a.m. Pacific on Sunday. I vanish from the world below the surface for approximately 30 hours or so.
0:28I'm down in the submarine. I send out a Monday morning podcast from the depths, I guess way, way, way beneath the yacht.
0:35And then I watch the rest of the games and then emerge on Monday evening.
0:40And anyway, that's kind of what it feels like in order to get 14 football games watched all the way through in a day and a half.
0:49But it's also pretty fun. I'm not complaining. And I get to make this show for you, which I enjoy very much.
0:56Before we get started with the Monday night game, I wanted to mention, I think, depending on whether you're listening to this
1:03quickly upon its release, I am going to be a guest on Instagram live of one Mr.
1:09Rainn Wilson on Tuesday afternoon. I think it's still happening.
1:12I'm not 100% sure, but I will find out hopefully this morning.
1:16But we think 4 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Pacific.
1:19It's possible we still get our wires crossed. As far as I know, it is still happening.
1:25And I don't know whether Rainn archives these in a way that can be seen after the fact.
1:30So the way to get it is to watch live if it's going to happen should be fun.
1:36Tuesday, today, 4 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Pacific. I will be on Instagram live on Rainn Wilson's Instagram account.
1:42All right. Let's talk about Monday night. I doubted the Chiefs.
1:46How dare I? They take the Broncos behind the woodshed with an ultra convincing win.
1:51And yet, this was very much about one player.
1:54You and I both know it. Kenneth Walker. Holy moly.
1:57Four straight handoffs to start that game. That first drive was all Walker.
2:01Patrick Mahomes, honestly, I think we can probably all agree, didn't play very well.
2:06The Denver defense theoretically is very good, but couldn't tackle at all last night.
2:11Mahomes did scramble for one touchdown on that first drive, had it overturned by penalty, then just scrambled again, and scored his rushing touchdown after all.
2:19Very, very impressive, given the knee ligament problem. However, Mahomes also began the game throwing 2 for 12 for 14 yards.
2:26And if Denver's offense hadn't been such utter garbage, which we'll talk about in a moment, you can imagine a world where
2:33maybe the lack of throwing might have harmed the Chiefs.
2:36But as it was, Walker, I think, did 14 carries, 89 yards in the first half.
2:42Then the first drive of the third quarter, the Chiefs have a fourth and one.
2:46They give it to Walker. Ho-hum. He just houses it.
2:5060-yard touchdown. I'm here to tell you, there are some runs on this film that weren't even super well-blocked, that were not
2:57easy, and Walker just made crazy moves. We've known for a long time he's a breakaway threat.
3:02We've loved him for a long time on the show.
3:06Josh calls him the Robert Pattinson of running backs.
3:09If your reaction coming out of this game was based on Walker's injury history, a team using him like they rented him
3:16and plan on returning him tomorrow, if you think that's going to get him hurt, I understand it.
3:22But they all can get hurt. I would personally love to take the guy who looks like that.
3:28Meaning, I was simply too low on him. I did not want Walker with the 11 pick, 13 pick, right around where he went most drafts.
3:36It was a little too rich for my blood.
3:39If I could do it again now, I think you'd have to say Walker would be a top five pick.
3:45And if you've got him, that probably feels pretty dang good.
3:49Pretty clear that the rest of the Chiefs offense didn't function very well.
3:53If that's because of the Broncos defense, I guess we'll find that out in due time.
3:59But, you know, if you want to get excited by Travis Kelsey catching a three-yard pass and running 60 yards after a missed tackle, you know, go ahead.
4:08Xavier Worthy, awful, didn't seem to be running the right routes.
4:11I think we can almost certainly chalk up Mahomes' interception to Xavier Worthy.
4:15Rasheed Rice, I mean, that was a scam inside a scam.
4:19That was a real inception of scamming. He was getting erased by, of all people, the horrendous Riley Moss, whom the Broncos
4:26still insist is a starting level corner in the league.
4:30But Moss couldn't tackle Rice right before halftime. Rice runs right over him and scores, has one other catch the entire night.
4:37Certainly want to see it all function against not Denver.
4:40But Walker doing almost 200 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns.
4:43That's the main thing that worked here and matters here.
4:46And yeah, based on what the rest of this looked like, it seems like the next teams the Chiefs will be playing
4:54are going to try and pay extra special attention to the run game.
4:58And then we'll see what the rest of it looks like.
5:02But the Broncos, wow. I mean, the defense is going to be kicking themselves.
5:06We all know they're better than that. Just so many blown tackles.
5:10Hard to even fathom everybody on that defense who's good having that bad a night.
5:15And for sure, Walker is a hard dude to tackle.
5:18The Patriots can attest to that from the Super Bowl.
5:21But not that hard. That was... I mean, there are plenty of other players, not just Walker, who Denver couldn't tackle.
5:28Evil movie dojo owner Bo Nix. Just a disaster of a night.
5:32We said something to this effect last week. Just because we don't know some of the Chiefs defenders' names, especially in the secondary, doesn't mean they stink.
5:41They definitely didn't stink last night. In fact, the high first-round pick, Delane, gets hurt making an interception, never comes back in.
5:48And it still doesn't matter. The Chiefs brought pressure from all over.
5:52The Broncos couldn't block it. And Bo Nix was simply rattled.
5:56Every play that you do, don't you know you're Botoxic?
5:59He was Botoxic last night. Running around, looking like, I'm trying to throw on the move, but then just often flinging out of bounds or taking a sack.
6:08He kept fumbling. Shotgun snaps. I think the interception was also a miscommunication, where Nix thought Cortland Sutton would break off his route.
6:16But the fumbles, I mean, it's a brutal offensive night.
6:19Buck and Aikman mentioned several times that Sean Payton had given up offensive play calling, and you have to wonder if he wants it back.
6:27After one game, five running back carries in a first half, where the Broncos were, of course, in it.
6:33It was 7-7 until very late in the first half.
6:36Nix's touchdown pass was a beautiful throw. It was to Evan Engram, so it didn't really help anybody.
6:42But it was Nix's best throw of the night, which is not hyperbole.
6:47I can't remember any other good throws. He had a red zone runaround play, where he just decides at the last instant,
6:54oh, I'm going to throw it, and it slips out of his hand for a fumble, and could have been a pick
7:01six, but the defender's foot was out of bounds.
7:04Sutton was open for a big one later in the game, and Nix couldn't set his feet and just make the throw.
7:11You know, you heard me talk about Jackson Dart, the surf movie bad guy, on Monday's show.
7:17That was a good, controlled performance from Dart on Sunday night that really showed me something, and these two guys are lumped
7:24in my head, but maybe they should not be.
7:27The Chiefs, that game was everything we worried about with Nix, even when the Broncos were winning last year.
7:33It did not seem better. It did not seem under control.
7:36Jalen Waddell, one catch for two yards, and a hellacious drop that could have kept a drive going.
7:42Sutton, nothing. The number one receiver might have been Pat Bryant, who got called for holding twice.
7:48R.J. Harvey and J.K. Dobbins basically split the backfield.
7:51We didn't have to worry about Jonah Coleman. The one time they had a full possession in the red zone, just like
7:58last year, Harvey appeared to be the choice, but he did not score, because nobody scored, and it was really bad.
8:05And it is back to the drawing board for Denver.
8:08Jags at home next week. We'll talk about the Jags later in the show.
8:13Their offense sure looked good, and that's a rematch of the game that the Jags won in Denver late last year.
8:20Meanwhile, the Chiefs on Sunday night will host the Colts.
8:23Today's kickoff. Okay, on today's show, we are going to talk about some more games from Sunday of week one.
8:29If you don't hear me talk about the game you're interested in, well, I have already watched it and talked about it,
8:37so you can hear that one by going back to Monday's podcast.
8:40For today, on Tuesday, I will have Saints Lions, Ravens Colts, Browns Jaguars, Dolphins Raiders, and Jets Titans, and then it's time
8:48to start thinking about week two, and that begins with the waiver wire.
8:52To help me with that, Brandon Funston from The Athletic will join.
8:56I think you'll have fun. I thank you again for listening to what the sponsors have to offer, and for listening to the show today.
9:04We are sponsored again by Dose. It is a plant-powered alternative to pills clinically studied to have positive impacts on cholesterol blood
9:11work markers, including HDL, LDL, and triglycerides when taken twice daily.
9:15I just drank my dose this morning. I've been drinking it each morning.
9:19It's delightful. It tastes like mango with a hint of ginger, entirely natural, with eight powerful ingredients to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.
9:26Dose is backed by a 90-day, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study when taken twice daily.
9:31It's a gentle alternative you can try instead of cholesterol pills, and those pills typically only help with LDL, while Dose also supports better HDL and triglyceride health.
9:40It's delicious, and it can help. If you're ready to take control of your cholesterol, head to dosedaily.co slash Harris or enter

9:56Game film rewind. Let's get back to the Sunday games with the overtime game.
10:01The Saints go for the win at the end after a big comeback, but they fail on the two-point conversion, so the Lions win by one.
10:10It's never a bad thing to get basically five quarters worth of stats for your players, and of course it has the
10:17week's most controversial call, the Jared Goff non-fumble for a fumble six that was very early in the game.
10:23Would have mattered, would have changed the way the teams played the game, but in the end, I don't think that's why the result was what it was.
10:32The good thing for the Saints, because they were dead in the water, was that they got extra time, because for three
10:39of those five quarters, they're losing 21-0. Tyler Shuck, as in Duck, four for 15 to start this game.
10:45Let's not get carried away with that incredible yardage total, because man, he played bad, and without overtime, the numbers wouldn't look as good.
10:53He played much better after he was playing bad.
10:56Through an interception, I'm actually guessing the pick was Noah Fant's fault, running the wrong route, doing a Xavier Worthy, as we
11:03like to call it, but the Lions defense did play very well for the beginning of that game.
11:09They would certainly give it up later. Shuck got corner blitzed deep in his own territory in the third quarter, and took
11:16the sack, which is okay, but you can't fumble there.
11:20But, you know, down 21-0. He may have Bortles-ed his way into the hole, but he Bortles-ed his way back out again.
11:27The comeback started with a bomb to Chris Olave on a scramble drill.
11:31Game on. We'll talk about the Saints' backfield in just a second, but they score on that drive.
11:37Devon Vele draws interference in the end zone, and then Vele with a great diving grab catches the jerk-faced touchdown that made it 21-14.
11:45Vele's name will come up surely during waivers later.
11:48Next drive, Vele with another crazy leaping grab, full extension.
11:51This one for 30 yards. They kick a field goal to go down 21-17, and then they get it back down 24-17, two and a half minutes left.
12:00It's a fourth and 12. Another corner blitz. This time, Shuck somehow gets it off, hits the rookie Bryce Lance for a first down.
12:08Then Olave had been a little shaken up, but he returned, catches a bomb shot inside the 10.
12:14He was injured again, and yet returned again. The touchdown goes to Juwan Johnson to tie it.
12:19Then the Saints get it back again with 10 seconds left.
12:23Juwan Johnson makes a sick catch that gives them a 62-yard field goal attempt to win it, but the UK kicker can't make it.
12:31It's no good. After the Lions score in overtime, what can you say?
12:35Shuck does it again, a fourth down in overtime.
12:38Olave makes his 10th catch. Then Juwan Johnson does a double move down the right sideline, makes another sick sideline catch.
12:45Johnson gets an end zone target, almost scores. Then it's Noah Fant who does score.
12:50Then they go for two and don't get it.
12:53And, you know, we might look back and say, okay, in the end, everybody is running it up on a Lions defense
13:00that doesn't have most of its usual secondary, plus the Saints were in desperation mode and without a couple of kind of
13:07miraculous fourth downs were nowhere near the numbers they produced.
13:10But, hey, I'll take it the fact that they can if they Bortles their way in.
13:16You know, it's good they can Bortles their way out.
13:19So that was a good-looking environment in that second half.
13:22For the New Orleans backfield, I just want to say, you know, I think for the moment, I mean no disrespect, I'm
13:29going to keep pronouncing it Travis Etienne because this is a podcast.
13:33You can't see me. There are different players whose name is Achan, you may remember.
13:38And, you know, being audio only, you're not seeing the pictures of the players or my face as I'm saying the name.
13:45So I just don't want to confuse people. Plus, his brother Trevor Etienne isn't asking people to change that pronunciation.
13:52So just for clarity's sake, at least for the moment, that's how I'm going to roll.
13:57We'll see about the future. But yeah, Travis Steve, as a third-round fantasy pick or so, that wasn't very awesome in week one.
14:04Watching this tape on Monday morning, I immediately made a note.
14:08That's a lot of Kendra Miller. And so it was.
14:11In the end, Etienne only got to be part of the second half rally because they kept throwing him screens.
14:18And they were okay, pretty effective. But in the red zone, yeah, that was mostly Kendra Miller lining up in the backfield.
14:25And it was Miller who got the only short touchdown of the game.
14:29It's the NFL. There are usually other guys, no question.
14:33But it would be better if you have Etienne not coming out in short yardage.
14:37It winds up being 50 snaps for Etienne and 26 for Miller.
14:41And remember that Alvin Kamara didn't play. So I don't think Etienne's share of the pie is getting bigger.
14:48But I also don't think that just because this time it was Miller in short yardage, it will always be thus.
14:54But we will keep track. For the Lions, a sleepy first half for them where they moved the ball okay, but only scored seven points.
15:03Jameer Gibbs looked great. The backup in this one for Gibbs was Sione Vaki, for whatever that's worth.
15:08Vaki played 22 offensive snaps, but Gibbs got two one-yard touchdowns.
15:12Amon Rossi and Brown, two red zone touchdowns. Sam Laporta tried to get a jerkface touchdown of his own from the one right before Gibbs' second touchdown.
15:21Everything was pretty much as advertised, except our guy, Jameson Williams.
15:24That was not very good, kids. That was a bad game.
15:28And in fact, if I were going to accuse any single lion for being the reason this game wasn't a blowout by
15:35the third quarter, I think we'd have to look at Jameson Williams.
15:39His first grab was fine. In fact, a little bit snakebitten not to score.
15:44He was tackled at the one. But Williams had a deep over route where he was open late first quarter, dropped it.
15:51Then early second quarter, another drop. Duck hands. Then they gave him an end-around reverse carry.
15:56He dropped that, but recovered it, but lost yards.
15:59And there were a couple other targets that were missed connections.
16:03It's weird in the box score. I only, I saw four targets.
16:07I felt like there were other passes to Williams on tape that were over his head.
16:12And like, maybe they were just saying it was a throwaway, but I kind of don't think so.
16:18Williams did catch a deep out for 22 yards in overtime that got Detroit down inside the five and set up St.
16:25Brown for what would be the winning score. But that is very much not the way we wanted the season to start for that particular flag player.
16:34Officially, I believe he was credited with zero drops.
16:37That is malarkey. I watched it. James Williams had two drops.
16:40How about the Ravens going to Indianapolis and woodshedding the Colts?
16:44Coming out of week one, one of the offenses that you'd say, wow, they might be dominant.
16:49We can certainly talk about the Bears on Monday's show.
16:53We did, maybe. Also, maybe you could say the Ravens, except right now you might not say Zay Flowers.
16:59You don't say Zay Flowers. I mean, it started great for the number one flag player.
17:04First play from scrimmage for the Ravens is a naked boot.
17:08Deep ball, Lamar throws it to Zay Flowers. It's a 49-yard game, gets stopped at the two.
17:13They false start. The touchdown goes to Lamar Jackson on a read option keeper.
17:18Late first quarter, Flowers had two tight window catches.
17:21Mid-second quarter, my notes just say boom. I was very excited at this point.
17:25Right. Flowers lines up at running back on that play, runs a little angle route out of the backfield, and boom, indeed, he's gone for a 54-yard touchdown.
17:34It appears he is not allergic to the end zone.
17:38Is he, however, potentially allergic to stretching? A couple of minutes later, six minutes to go on the second quarter, Flowers catches
17:45a short cross, gets tackled on the left sideline.
17:48I've now seen the coach's tape this morning. You can see him grab his hammy and put up a finger, and he was done for the day.
17:56The score was 21-6, at that point, so I don't think you'd say, oh, you know, it's purely precautionary.
18:03I'm well aware of the fact that the Ravens told one of their national skin puppets that the hamstring is not considered serious.
18:10Easy for them to say. They don't have him on all these teams like we do.
18:15On the one hand, I think we'll take 150 yards and a touchdown in less than a half a football.
18:22On the other hand, hope that doesn't give you the stress farts.
18:26Get ready for a week of stress farts worrying about Zay Flowers' hamstring.
18:30New York City, tap water, Derrick Henry just kept flowing, had two bunny touchdowns from in close, plus late second quarter on
18:37the same drive where Flowers got hurt. Henry gets rumbling, stiff arms adue to the fiery depths of hell.
18:43That score made it 28-6. Lamar did have a sack fumble deep in his own territory in the second quarter, but much
18:51of the second half felt like an academic exercise.
18:54You had various Flowers replacements making plays here and there.
18:57The rookie, Jacoby Lane, actually scored a touchdown, but it was called back by holding whereupon Mark Andrews had a drop and they got stopped on fourth down.
19:06Andrews had a four for 49, but the first trip into the red zone, two other tight ends got catches.
19:13I don't know. Andrews looks like a turnaround and fall down guy to me right now, but he is still on what looks like a very good offense.
19:22Jacoby Lane apparently broke a bone in his arm, so I don't think he's going to be much of a waver ad.
19:29For the Colts, for one drive, they look like a very good offense.
19:33They came out play action and throw, throw, throwing.
19:36It was a great drive. Josh Downs immediately had two catches and his boosters were no doubt like, see?
19:42And unfortunately, those were his only two catches of the game.
19:46One on that drive also went to Keenan Allen and one went to Alec Pierce.
19:51And then inside the five, Jonathan Taylor got two cracks and scored on the second.
19:56They missed the extra point. We're actually leading this game 6-0.
19:59And then the next drive, Daniel Jones did throw a pick.
20:03It wasn't horrible. It was mostly a great play by Roquan Smith.
20:07But then third drive, nothing. Fourth drive, nothing. In the first half, it felt like they were not using Alec Pierce that much, kind of getting him acclimated.
20:16Then mid-second quarter, Jonathan Taylor had a nice game, but fumbled around midfield.
20:20Kind of thought his momentum was stopped. It could have been whistled, but it wasn't.
20:25Pierce was in there late second quarter, got a legit deep post that Marlon Humphrey defended really well.
20:31After the Lamar fumble, Taylor got a couple of carries.
20:34Keenan Allen got a catch inside the five, then Taylor converted.
20:38You know, last year, they said during the broadcast, when the Colts had first and goal inside the five, they were 20 for 20 scoring touchdowns.
20:46And they did it again twice on Sunday. Taylor looked really great.
20:50You certainly do not exit this game worrying about him.
20:53Pierce kind of had a drop on a deep dig, clanged off his hands.
20:58Then most of the fourth quarter here was pure Basura.
21:01Pierce and Allen, a couple of pretty meaningless catches in the fourth quarter.
21:05Then Tyler Warren, who'd been really stymied and frustrated much of the game, scored a Basura touchdown for a rescue for him.
21:13I don't think anything particularly disastrous here for Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor looked great.
21:17It may just simply be that the Ravens are really, really good.

22:38What does the film say? Let's wrap up three more games.
22:41Browns, Jags. I mean, we may need to add the Jags to that list I was making.
22:47Ravens, Bears, Jags. That was obviously a dominant effort.
22:50The question you'll have is simply, are the Browns really as bad as they looked in that game?
22:56Because they looked really, really bad. And if on Monday's show I said Cooper Rush was the worst quarterback I saw, well,
23:03I had not yet seen Deshaun Watson. Predictably awful.
23:06Throws a pick on the Browns' first possession. A third down on the second drive.
23:11Watson throws another one directly to a linebacker. The linebacker drops it.
23:15Third drive. Watson's getting sacked. Shocker. He drops the ball for a fumble, but Cleveland recovers.
23:20Fourth drive. Second play. The rookie Casey Concepcion fumbles away a screen.
23:24Just a very, very embarrassing half. And then when it was no longer competitive, you know, the second half mostly garbage, it
23:31took a long kickoff return to get the Browns down into the red zone, losing 31-0.
23:36Of course then, Watson does a delay of game.
23:39The walk. Harold Fannin didn't get a target until a minute left in the third quarter.
23:44Concepcion short was certainly a big part of the plan, such as it was.
23:49Denzel Boston gets a bomb touchdown with two minutes left for the dogs having been called off.
23:54Not that impressive. Quinchon Judkins 50 scrimmage yards and even that was merciful.
23:59He was still out there at the end racking up Basora yards.
24:03Mostly, I think you keep using Judkins. I think you probably give Fannin another week and see if the Browns correct that
24:10error of not throwing it to him, but that team did not look like one that we need to go much deeper on.
24:17The Jags, on the other hand, I definitely am aware of the fact that Brian Thomas made a few catches early and
24:24a couple of them were really, really good. One on the sideline, one a tight window throw, but also that he then
24:32re-injured the shoulder that was bothering him throughout training camp and sat out most of the rest of the game.
24:38But the story watching this for me was how good Parker Washington is.
24:42He's a stud. The first possession, a brilliant diving grab for a touchdown at full extension.
24:48Then in the first quarter, he also has a one-handed catch.
24:51He catches an over route. Then, unfortunately for all of them, rookie Josh Cameron scores the touchdown that puts them up 14-0.
24:58In the first half, Travis Hunter had a catch.
25:01Okay. You know, Brenton Strange catches a touchdown. He's a flag player.
25:05We will take it. But I think the thing that might gum up the works for anyone not named Parker Washington is
25:12that Parker Washington looks like a damn star. I am fully sold after watching this game.
25:18I don't love that he's out there returning punts, for heaven's sake, but I think he's a great player, and I honestly
25:25would do it over and put way more distance between him and anybody else in that receiving core in my summer ranks.
25:32Jacoby Myers, all credit to him for the long touchdown, but it was 24-0 in the third quarter, and also nobody covered him.
25:39He was by himself on a blown coverage that made it 31-0.
25:43Washington is the one that really stands out to me.
25:47Also, the Saluki, Trevor Lawrence, beyond reproach, he was great.
25:50The Jacksonville backfield, accordingly, is going to matter if they're going to be really, really good on offense.
25:56There were no running back touchdowns in this game.
25:59Basial Tootin had carries on the game's first two plays, but then Chris Rodriguez entered, immediately got the third and fourth carries.
26:06In the second quarter, Rodriguez had a snap at Wildcat quarterback for a first down.
26:11Tootin was kind of MIA for a lot of the first half.
26:15In the absence of LaQuint Allen, you had Amir Abdullah getting a couple of looks in the first half, which we don't love.
26:22Also, in the hurry up, it was Abdullah. But then, as they were pulling away and it wasn't that competitive, you're darn Tootin.
26:30Tootin had a misdirection screen that went for 22 yards, and when he gets in space, he is really fast.
26:36It's no joke. But the numbers are going to probably look like they skew a little too heavy to Tootin because for
26:43some reason they had him out there for the final two drives of the game up whatever it was, 31-0, 31-7.
26:50To that point, it had been seven carries for Tootin, five for Rodriguez, and then Tootin got eight carries just running things
26:57out at the end because this matters. We need to know this.
27:01That offense might be really good. Right now, you're certainly going to call Tootin best among equals there, but given the fact
27:09that Abdullah's production wasn't garbage time and Tootin's was, and also LaQuint Allen is going to be back pretty soon, there are
27:16probably some three-headed monster annoying weeks that will be mixed in.
27:19Dolphins Raiders, the debut of new coaching staffs on both sidelines, this game would seem to indicate Clint Kubiak far ahead of whatever Jeff Halfley has going on.
27:28I don't think you'd watch that and say, wow, the Raiders are a finished product, but for a week, definitely more good plays than bad.
27:37I think certainly importing a couple offensive linemen and also just getting even like bog average quarterback play out of Kirk Cousins will do wonders for that offense.
27:46I don't think you would say any of the play calling or schemes or pass catchers were, you know, amazing and wild
27:53and untamed, but Vegas didn't punt until the fourth quarter in this game.
27:57Early on, kind of everybody was catching passes. Jalen Naylor converts a third down.
28:02Malik Benson has a catch. Michael Mayer, two straight first downs.
28:05Trent Tucker, a catch in the red zone and then back-to-back grabs for Jack Besh, who scores the first touchdown.
28:12And after that, it was kind of just like Ashton Gentey.
28:15Very obviously, his ankle was not a problem. The Raiders had the ball 35 minutes and the Dolphins just really couldn't threaten them.
28:23So they could be very patient with Gentey, who didn't make a lot of big runs, but you know, you can clearly
28:30see a difference about what happens when he's not met in the backfield on every other carry the way he was last year.
28:38Gentey got rhythm going with nice cuts. There's one really good outside zone where he cut on one foot, exploded north-south.
28:45I love that run. As a running back, it was definitely more of kind of a grinding effort rather than one big
28:52run and a bunch of little stuff. And then as a receiver, Gentey runs an arrow route out of the backfield in
28:59the red zone for one touchdown catch. And then when Miami closed it down to 17-13 after a bad Kirk Cousins interception,
29:06he led them right back down again. Tucker had a big gain and then a play-action screen to Gentey and he houses it, his second receiving touchdown.
29:15A pretty unimpeachable game for him and a team that might wind up being okay or as we keep saying, it just
29:22might wind up that the Dolphins turn out to be just that bad.
29:26Those Dolphins, I mean, they're throwing a bunch of young bodies at the problem just seeing if someone sticks.
29:32Malik Willis' shoe kept coming off. Willis had some okay throws.
29:36It just looks a lot like his Titan days to me.
29:40You can squint and see good plays. He made good plays, but then just you wouldn't know when it was coming, but he would lose it.
29:48For example, on Sunday he just sometimes sets his feet and has no pass rush around him and appears to see somebody
29:55open and just absolutely misses the throw. Or a couple of times he would make a nice scramble, but then just throw
30:02directly into double coverage against his body or commit delay of game on a fourth and seven with four minutes left in the game.
30:10Devon Achan is the only Dolphin anybody is feeling good about starting, and they certainly gave him all the work he could
30:18handle right away, including a nice catch on a fade route on the first series, on a third down.
30:24But on a third and one in the second quarter during a good drive, Miami lines it up in a power look
30:31and like a big formation, but they have Achan in, and I just, don't they know that's just not his game?
30:38Predictably he gets stuffed, they kick a field goal, it winds up just sort of being a wet fart of a game.
30:45Achan 66 yards, never really got close to the end zone.
30:49This was not the worst offense that I watched in week one.
30:52Like, the Browns were worse, Cooper Rush was worse, but yes, for sure things are going to need to get better for Achan to pay off his ADP.
31:02Caleb Douglas woke up a little bit late second quarter with a few catches to set up a different field goal before the half that made it 17-6.
31:11Then Chris Bell caught a deep over route in the third quarter, setting up a touchdown run for Willis.
31:17But then, with a little hope, Willis throws that really rancid interception.
31:21While Douglas had the stats, I can't see that I'm going to have any Miami receiver very close to starting position for week two.
31:29Although, we're going to talk about adds later. Douglas certainly adding him is an okay idea.
31:34And if the Browns and the Falcons weren't week one's worst offense, you know, it might have been the Titans.
31:40But it was almost hard to tell because the Jets on Sunday were just so darned competent.
31:46Not exactly the adjective we usually use to describe the J-E-T-S, but they were good.
31:51They were controlled. Once again, the schedule will reveal itself, and we will learn if this was more about the Titans.
31:58But for one afternoon, it was believable that the Jets have created a stable environment that really started with their offensive line, I thought.
32:06Both Jets running backs had really good running lanes.
32:08Geno Smith had plenty of time. Never really had to play too much out of structure where he is such an unbelievable disaster.
32:16Awesome work up front for an offense that, if its intentions were revealed in week one, probably doesn't want to be wild and crazy.
32:24They played it pretty close to the chest. The first Jets drive was great.
32:28Omar Cooper made a big play to get it down in close, but suffered a high ankle sprain, had to be carted off the field later.
32:37And then Kenyon Sadiq would get a Jets sweep for a close-in touchdown run.
32:41Brees Hall moved great right away, and as the game wore on.
32:45I thought third quarter Hall had some awesome runs.
32:48Looked kind of like what Kenneth Walker looked like if you got to see Monday night.
32:53I thought that's what Brees Hall looked like, where he got good blocking, but then made some plays on his own too.
33:01Braylon Allen was playing a fair amount while the game was still competitive.
33:05He had room to run. He also had a drop in the flat to end the season's longest drive so far.
33:12An 18-play, almost 11-minute drive for the Jets, and they just kept it going.
33:16There was a fourth and two on that drive where Garrett Wilson ran a slant.
33:21That was brave. Took an absolutely massive hit. Held on.
33:24Got up. Really gutty. The first half, I believe, had two attempts for Geno Smith that traveled 10-plus air yards, which I
33:32think probably hints to us that if they have their druthers, they're probably going to play it conservatively.
33:38That could lead to some up and down games for Garrett Wilson, but it sounds really good for Brees Hall if the
33:45offensive line winds up being as good as it looked on Sunday.
33:49And the Titans, it was rough. The Jets probably controlled the line of scrimmage when they were on defense too, but sometimes
33:56you couldn't tell because Cam Ward would get enough protection to at least pause at the top of his drop and then
34:03just start running around and then usually wing it way out of bounds.
34:07Tennessee was losing for this entire game and yet Cam Ward still couldn't make himself let go of the ball.
34:14You got an untimely third quarter drop from Tajay Spears that had the crowd booing.
34:19I mean, the Titans had the ball for 18 plays in the first half.
34:23First drive was okay. It was pretty good. They got a field goal.
34:27That was the only points they scored during the competitive portion of the game.
34:32Just not enough first downs and therefore not enough total plays run.
34:36Very hard for Tony Pollard to live on eight touches.
34:39Not like any other running back played anywhere near as much as he did, but they were just really conservative losing.
34:46They punted seven times and right after that 18 play drive where the Jets kicked that field goal, Chimre Dike fumbled away the kickoff.
34:54To the Tennessee defense's credit, they immediately made a stop and the Jets missed the ensuing field goal, but the meaningless Elik
35:01Ayo Manor touchdown at the end does not change anything.
35:04We certainly need to see more from the Titans before we start believing in that environment at all.
35:10We are sponsored again by the grocery delivery and meal planning site that I use.
35:15That's Hungry Root. This time of year, as you can imagine, hard for me to find time to shop healthy and make
35:22sure I'm eating healthy, but Hungry Root is just great.
35:26It helps so much. I've stayed with Hungry Root for years because the selection is great and the options are always healthy
35:33so I don't have to worry about high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, preservatives.
35:37I personally don't eat meat, but if you do, you never have to worry about hormones or antibiotics.
35:43They have over a thousand grocery items and 50,000 recipes.
35:46Like, I just made a quick tofu salad last night that was awesome.
35:51The Hungry Root recipes, they're relaxed. It's like 15 minutes to make.
35:55I really recommend Hungry Root if you want grocery shopping and meal planning to go quicker in your life, but still stay healthy.
36:02I think you'll love it as much as I do.

36:22Today's guest. It is Brandon Funston. You can find him, you can find him, but he's not really like out there.
36:29I mean, essentially is, is runs the athletic, the entire website, really the entire athletic.
36:34And like that makes a guy busy. So when you're the CEO of the athletic, which I just invented for him, he only does one podcast.
36:43It's my podcast. Hi, Brandon. Yes. I am not looking to be found unless it's by you, of course, and the Harris podcast.
36:50So good to be back. How are you doing?
36:53I'm good. I got to see you. We got to hang out during the book tour, the very first day of the book tour.
37:01How fun was that? We had a great time.
37:04I actually got, I got sucked up into a league.
37:07I was happy to do it. Met a bunch of your, a bunch of the Harris fans, the stands out there and
37:14they're a bunch of good people and I'm in a league and it, you know, I feel like I'm kind of a
37:21part of the, the Harris culture now. Yeah. You're a yacht possum.
37:25You're a yacht possum. That's, that's, I've been, you've always had, I have, I have a shirt, which, you know, I guess
37:32is my official identification as a possum. And a copy of the book.
37:37And you got to hear me, you got to hear me read the book.
37:41Yeah. And that was lovely up there in Tacoma.
37:44We had such a good time. We got to hang out, played poker with Sam and his friends for like a few hours.
37:52That was fun. It was good. It's good. Yeah.
37:55I think I, I think I was, I came out like $28 richer.
37:59I came out a little, like $5 poorer. I think you got some of my money.
38:04Damn it. Um, all right. So week, week one is over week two, uh, is, is about to be commencing.
38:11Of course, the waiver wire is where we're going to make our first adjustments.
38:15Can I tell anybody that there's a, you know, an absolute must add, you know, like sure.
38:21If you're in a league where Romeo Dobbs is available, like about half a leagues in on Yahoo, sure.
38:27Adam, but we're generally speaking about 12 team leagues where people are paying attention.
38:32I'm assuming Romeo Dobbs is drafted in most of those leagues.
38:35So our constraint as always for this list of waiver ads is 33% of Yahoo rosters or fewer.
38:41And there are still good names that you could speculatively add.
38:45I can't tell you that I'm positive there's anybody you're going to be add to starting for week two.
38:51You? No, I don't, I don't think so. Um, maybe, maybe one or yeah, maybe one or two.
38:57Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, we'll get to the names as always.
39:00Please don't crash your car. We'll put all the names we mentioned in today's show notes.
39:05And of course, Brandon, as you know, it's just so important to always keep in mind that when you add somebody, you
39:13have to drop somebody and that means you have to give them the Thursday boot because Thursday boots has been sponsoring the
39:20waiver segment on this show for so many years and we appreciate them so much.
39:25Get yourself an awesome pair of boots at Thursday boots.com.
39:28I don't have a promo code for you. They don't really do promo codes.
39:33You can though, like if you buy a pair of boots there or like sneakers or other stuff, you can for sure.
39:40Like there's a little thing that says, Hey, I heard you about you on Harris and a lot of people do that and I appreciate that.
39:48So anyway, thank you to Thursday boots for doing it.
39:51Uh, we will count them down. Who's your number five waiver ad for week two?
39:56Oh, I went back and forth on this one.
39:59A lot of vacillating, um, between three different running backs.
40:03I ultimately settled on one that I, I might get a, I will see what, we'll see what happens.
40:09I'm going to throw them out there. Alvin Kamara.
40:12Um, I think he, he practiced in full on Friday.
40:15Um, look at, there's, there's a bunch of, there's a bunch of handcuffed backs.
40:20I think Kamara actually might get some run. I mean, watching the way they, they utilize their backfield with Etienne and, uh,
40:27Kendrick Miller, if Kamara's back, I think, uh, there's a possibility that he takes the Miller, the Miller touches, um, maybe gets,
40:34maybe gets some deeper league flex appeal. If he's working in the passing game, I'm just, there's no, there's no quick fix at running back.
40:42I'm just kind of interested in if he would, I would, it's more like rolling the dice that maybe he comes in.
40:49Miller got nine carries, got some work. If they want to give that to Kamara when he gets back and maybe use
40:56them in the passing game a little bit. I like the offense cause they play fast.
41:02They, they run a lot of plays. They run, they ran a lot of plays in week one, but they were, they
41:09were a fast paced team last year. So there's a lot of potential for touches in this offense.
41:15And so I'm just going to say maybe, maybe in like an, you know, late stage, kind of how we were with
41:22Austin Eckler a couple of years ago in Washington, where we were kind of like, are you really going on like this for five minutes about Alvin Kamara?
41:31Sorry, I have to interrupt you. No, I know.
41:34That's fair. That's fair. I've just tried. Just like try to justify it.
41:38Yeah, exactly. So, I mean, I think you're going to talk about maybe one of the other running backs that I thought about, but I don't know.
41:47I just don't, there's just not a lot to go on.
41:51You're still talking about Alvin Kamara, still talking about him.
41:54I know. We'll hit the stop button here. You can do an hour on Kamara.
41:59You can tell my conviction level for my number five pick is pretty low.
42:03Me thinks thou doth protest too much, basically, is what you're saying.
42:07You know, the Saints were horrible for three quarters and then got an extra quarter for extra plays, so I'm not like
42:14that excited about the offense, but yes, they at least showed they could go to the races when they needed to when they were down three touchdowns.
42:23That's a fair point. I did put one of the other speculative backs at number five.
42:28I put Chris Brooks 2% rostered. I don't, again, we're not, we're kind of in the business here at the nether regions
42:36of the waiver wire, not telling you guys to pick up and start, but just guys to like, huh, I wonder if,
42:43and Kamara definitely falls under I wonder if, for sure.
42:46Chris Brooks also does, got the first carry. It was maybe the best running back carry of the day against the Vikings,
42:53and I thought Marshawn Lloyd looked slow, so maybe things bend a little bit in Brooks' direction.
42:59Who's your number four? A.D. Mitchell. Also my number four.
43:02Okay, yeah. Just, and it, you know, I've kind of hemming a little bit on him as well, hemming and Han, but,
43:09you know, the fact that Omar Cooper is now being called week to week with the high ankle sprain, you know, makes
43:16one, and I thought he looked good for a hot minute there as well.
43:21One play. Yeah, for one play, he looked good.
43:24Yeah. But we know Mitchell has the athleticism, and, you know, it's, he's a little bit of a problematic receiver, but the
43:31athleticism and the ability is there, and if he's got the opportunity and he can kind of just stay focused, say, I
43:38like the potential, but he's got that opportunity right now, so I would roll the dice on him at this point.
43:45I love, he's a bit of a problematic receiver, and it's so true, but it's such a funny way to say it,
43:52but it's so true, it's the perfect way to say it.
43:56Two deep balls in that game I just reviewed against the Titans, and I kind of like sifting through the receiver options,
44:03I could, I don't want to say other names because you might have them, I'll mention them in honorable mentions.
44:10The one of the group that plays with Geno Smith, and I, you know, the Jets clearly did everything that, I just
44:17talked about this, I don't need to go on and on about it, but they clearly did everything they could do to not have Crazy Geno come out.
44:26That was a very controlled offensive game plan, and so Crazy Geno is sort of what you would need for Adonai Mitchell.
44:33You would need more deep shots, but those are a couple really good plays on those deep balls.
44:39One of them was kind of merciless, the game was pretty much over, so yes, I have him at number four also.
44:46He's 16% rostered, definitely fine if you want to like shuffle deck chairs a little bit with Adonai Mitchell.
44:52I got no problem with it. Who's your number three?
44:56This is Devon Vele. You know, he's a limited receiver, but I liked, you know, they've got the ball on the two-yard
45:03line, they looked to him at the goal line, they gave him another end zone target.
45:08I think he drew the pass interference on that one.
45:11He did? A lot of short area stuff, but again, I think there's room for that.
45:16Working with Chris Alave right now, it's not a lot of mouth to feed with Jordan Tyson out, so I don't think
45:24this is a long-term ad, but while Tyson's on the IR, I think there might be some usability here.
45:30He got a lot of volume, so I'm going to go with Vele.
45:34He's my number two for the reasons that you said.
45:37I don't really feel super comfortable adding him to start him in week two.
45:42I think I just need to see a kind of broader sense that the Saints, who we've already talked a lot about,
45:49you know, aren't going to be losing by three touchdowns every week.
45:53Like, that's how they wound up producing a bunch of numbers.
45:57That's why Tyler Shuck is the NFL's leading passer right now.
46:00Like, okay, fine. I don't think that's going to happen long-term.
46:04You know, I look at, like, I have a team, like a 12-team league that started Jaden Reed in the flex, and
46:11like going into week two, you know, if I'm picking a Vele, I'm probably throwing him in there over Jaden Reed.
46:18I think there's people like that out there where he would make sense for people in week two.
46:24That's a fair point by you. I didn't realize that's how bad a drafter you were, but, you know, hey.
46:30Those Yop Possums. Ultra Competitive Leagues. I only play in Ultra Competitive Leagues.
46:34Right. Well, the Yop Possum League, I know those guys all didn't draft Jaden Reed, so that's, they left him for you.
46:42But I'm with you on Devon Vele. He's my number two, and you can kind of interrupt me, because we're going to have similar names here.
46:50I'd much rather hear your voice than mine when it comes to anything, frankly.
46:55My number three was Michael Mayer. Did he make your list?
46:58Oh, you went tight end. Interesting. Okay. No, I did not.
47:02I did not. Honestly, if I was going to go tight end, I was kind of interested in Kenyon Sadiq, just because
47:09they gave him the carry at the goal line.
47:12They did. And it looks like they're, you know, they're trying to get him involved.
47:17And, well, he has like three catches, but Mayer's interesting as well.
47:21I just didn't, I decided to keep it at running back and wide receiver.
47:25Sure. And you're right that people probably shouldn't be jumping off the tight end that they believed in enough to take after one week.
47:33I think if you, like, I find myself in a league with complicated ad drop stuff where I had Bowers, but couldn't,
47:40couldn't like reserve him or anything after week one.
47:43And like, I could use Mayer. There's no other tight ends available.
47:47And this is a 16 team league. Like, I can probably use Mayer.
47:51But you make a really good point, which is most of these waiver ads this week are kind of with the long view in mind.
48:00Like, ooh, if I get to week 10 and Kenyon Sadiq is healthy from the sports hernia surgery and, you know, has overtaken Mason Taylor.
48:08Like, he was obviously on a snap count for week one, but longer term, 100%, of course, you're right.
48:14Sadiq is a better ad than Mayer. Mayer is much more of a maybe right now kind of dude.
48:20And I was sort of, you know, I don't think he's special.
48:24He's fine. He's much more of the inline tight end once Bowers is back.
48:29They'll both play a bunch. But while Bowers is out, Mayer kind of has to fill both shoes so I could see
48:36him as a, you know, as a one week, two week, however many weeks this is going to be.
48:42Raiders fill in. The Raiders think he's special. They just gave him a nice deal.
48:47So I don't care about that. You know, I don't care about that.
48:51Money is fake. The money is fake. Who's number two on your list?
48:55Number two is Caleb Douglas. And, you know, it's kind of we were all sort of waiting to see what the Miami passing game look like.
49:04Look at I think, you know, I didn't watch the game from start to finish.
49:09It was on red zone in the afternoon, though.
49:12So it was on a decent amount. Then I went back and watched Caleb Douglas's catches.
49:17He didn't have to work too hard for a few of them.
49:21It looked like, you know, maybe the Raiders were kind of, you know, worried about keeping Willis contained and following HN.
49:28And so there was a lot of kind of like underneath the coverage kind of stuff where he just found gaps and
49:35was catching stuff that wasn't really contested. But the athleticism showed how I thought he showed decent hands and body movement a
49:42couple times catching balls on the on the boundary and looking pretty natural doing it.
49:47So, I mean, got good volume. They're going to, you know, someone's going to have to be valuable in in this.
49:54First of all, I think Malik Wilson is is is a better quarterback than like Cleveland because there are there are teams
50:01where someone doesn't have to be valuable because they're just that bad.
50:05I don't know that Miami is going to be just that bad.
50:09So I think someone's going to have some value.
50:12And I think right now it's looking like Caleb Douglas is is sort of the one I'd be I'd be rolling the dice on.
50:20He would have been my number six. You can add in the fact I just talked about that game a few minutes ago on the show.
50:28You can add into the fact that I mean, Malik Washington had a really bad game.
50:33If anything, I was like Chris Bell looks like a better ad than Malik Washington at this point.
50:39I mean, I of course doesn't necessarily mean because he had one bad game.
50:44They're punishing him. But I mean, it was rotten and part of why they lost the game and Caleb Douglas looked like the one you would want.
50:53So he was my number six. My number two was Valey.
50:56So who's your number one? Kalen Black. Is he your number one?
51:00Me too. Yes. Yeah. I mean, 15 touches. It went back and looked.
51:04Nine of his touches came when they were either losing tight or up by three.
51:09So it wasn't like, you know, these weren't like garbage.
51:12Yeah, he wasn't. They weren't garbage time. He was in the mix.
51:16And who knows? I mean, who knows if that continues going forward.
51:20But all we really care about is who is who is the guy that you want to back up Christian McCaffrey.
51:27And just going back and watching his tape. I mean, he got it.
51:31It felt like he got the yards that were there and nothing more seems a little bit like he's kind of like
51:39once he picks his direction, there's not a lot of change of direction, but I think it's going to be serviceable.
51:45And if McCaffrey were to get hurt, then it's going to be more than that.
51:50Yep. Kind of like a missile, like a short, stocky missile, but like very committed to one direction and very, very physical.
51:57And of course, we'll take it. And it seems like a real role.
52:02Like if the Niners are going to be an absolute wagon, it seemed like a real role in that one game where
52:09even if McCaffrey is healthy, you might be able to use Black as a flex once the bye weeks come along.
52:16So he's 27% rostered. So it might not be available in all leagues, but did qualify for our list here.
52:22The question people are then going to ask is, okay, if I have McCaffrey and nobody has Kaelin Black, what should I be paying in terms of fab?
52:31I think I probably would not say like 75%.
52:34I don't, I think if, you know, I might say like 25% of your fab.
52:39Is that a fair number or would you go higher?
52:43I don't think I'd go higher because the first number that came into my head was 20.
52:48And then, okay. And if you're in the actual league and you're actually worried that someone else might get him, then I
52:55could see myself going, well, maybe 25. Oh, maybe 29.
52:59You know, start playing around. But I think in the 20s range is about where I would settle.
53:04Me too. Because if someone really, I mean, let's not, we're singing a guy's praises, but we don't want to go overboard.
53:12There are going to be other situations where it's going to be more obvious that you can actually get a real starter
53:19out of nowhere in the first month of the season and you don't want all your money to be gone.
53:25So, right. I mean, go ahead. Oh, sorry. I was just going to say, look, I like Caitlin Black.
53:31He maybe has some flex appeal working with CNC, but you're really also just like what happens if he's not there.
53:38I mean, Braylon Allen's out there. Emmett Johnson's out there.
53:42Both of those guys offer the same thing. I don't know if I overpay for Caitlin Black because those guys are out there as well.
53:50And, you know, Kenneth Walker and Brees Hall could certainly get hurt as well.
53:54Yeah. Yeah. And the point would be like if you have McCaffrey, I think you probably should be willing to pay a
54:01little bit more to make sure you got it all locked up there because that offense looked very good in Australia.
54:08And if you don't and you want to take a shot, I probably wouldn't pay 25.
54:14I'd probably take the shot for 10 or 15 and just see if the McCaffrey owner is asleep at the wheel because
54:21it isn't that valuable as a standalone. You're going to have to, you're going to get to the bye weeks and you're
54:28going to be looking at Caitlin Black on your bench and going, I could really use that roster spot.
54:34I can't, I don't feel comfortable using him. So you don't want to, I think, overpay if you don't have Caitlin Black.
54:41But he did seem like the number one guy to me as well this week.
54:46The three receivers I was going to mention as honorable mentions that I picked Mitchell over, Caleb Douglas, you nailed one of them.
54:54The next one was Dontavia and Wicks. One deep ball and then one other good play.
54:59Good. It was good stuff. I don't think that offense looked fixed.
55:03And then, oh, I can't believe I'm doing it.
55:06But in a deeper league, Rashad Bateman, only because I mentioned Jacoby Lane broke his wrist or arm or something.
55:12And then Zay Flowers, I don't think he plays.
55:15I don't, you know, they're talking real optimistic. But I think they'll be careful with him.
55:20So like, Rashad Bateman might actually get work in week two.
55:24So in the short term, you could take a look at him.
55:28Well, Brandon, thank you for doing this. Go back to your CEO duties.
55:32Please let the people on the news desk that they should do a better job.
55:37But you on the sports side are doing wonderful.
55:40You can't really follow Brandon. Don't bother following him.
55:43But listen to him on the show every time he's on, which he will be again probably in about a month.
55:50And I appreciate you doing this. Always fun. It was fun.
55:53And I thank you so much for listening. Let me thank the three sponsors that made today's show possible.
56:00We had Dose and we had DraftKings and we had Hungry Root.
56:04And so if you were interested in anything I had to say about the sponsors, I appreciate how well you do support the sponsors.
56:11I'm not getting a cut. I don't work on commission.
56:15This is strict advertising, but they do measure how many people use the codes and the URLs.
56:20And so if you find yourself with a need and you remember that they were a sponsor of the show, you want
56:27to reward them for sponsoring something that you like using the codes and URLs really does help.
56:33Today's sponsors are mentioned in the show all of the current sponsors are at harrisfootball.com.
56:38That's going to do it for this Tuesday episode.
56:41I am proceeding to go do ranks here in a little bit for week two and then the Yacht Club episode with
56:48Andy Barron's on Wednesday will consist of some ranks talk and probably just some reaction talk from week one.
56:54Looking forward to hearing what Andy thought of the various games that we have talked about here on the show for the past couple of days.
57:03And then we'll all be back here on Thursday.
57:06I'll have two guests. We'll have Dave Kluge from Football Guys to talk about week two ranks and Jake Trowbridge returns from his sojourn to the Northeast.
57:14We'll ask him all about what New England was like because I didn't go there this summer.
57:20And then of course we'll also do week two in DraftKings.
57:23Let me remind you, Pound Foolish is still a thing that's out there and as a fun bonus thing, I now have text confirmation during the show.
57:32It came in while I was talking to Brandon from Rain.
57:36I will in fact be on Rain Wilson's Instagram live at 1 p.m.
57:40Pacific, 4 p.m. Eastern today. That's the 15th of September.
57:43We're going to talk about all kinds of stuff.
57:46I really honestly don't know, but some of it will be Pound Foolish for sure and then also probably just fantasy stuff because Rain really likes fantasy.
57:55We're in a league together and I lost this week in that league so I'll probably get a little teasing but should be very fun.
58:03So if you're available at 4 o'clock Eastern, 1 o'clock p.m.
58:07today, you can go over to Rain Wilson's Instagram page and we should be on there live right about then.
58:13Until then, thanks again so much for listening. Your hat is awesome.
58:17You're awesome for wearing it. I will talk to you next time.
