Can he go 2-2 in a four-game stretch? He went 2-1-1... Not to mention the ability to lead not only that room, but the team... to have a vet and just to know how valuable Jameis is to Jaxson and how valuable he will be to J.J. as well.

Winston's 2-1-1 record and veteran mentorship justify two-year extension, aids young QBs.

Winston, backup QB, received a two-year contract extension before the season. Schoen emphasized Winston's dual value: on-field performance (2-1-1 record in four-game stretch, keeping games competitive in fourth quarter/overtime) and leadership mentorship to young QBs. Schoen cited a lesson from his Buffalo days with Josh Allen—the importance of a veteran QB in the room to help young players during film study and meetings while coaches game-plan. Schoen highlighted Winston's value to both Jaxson Dart and J.J. McCarthy as a mentor.
