Winston's 2-1-1 record and veteran leadership justify his two-year extension beyond backup duties.

Winston, the Giants' backup quarterback, was given a two-year contract extension before the season. Schoen emphasized Winston's value beyond his on-field play: he went 2-1-1 in a four-game stretch, led the team in games with fourth-quarter leads or ties, and provides critical veteran leadership to the quarterback room and broader team. Schoen cited a lesson from his Buffalo days with Josh Allen, noting the importance of having a veteran in the room to help young quarterbacks during film study and meetings while coaches game-plan.
