Field Gulls on Sam Darnold

Nelson acquisition directly targets Darnold's pocket protection and offensive efficiency.

The Seahawks' primary rationale for acquiring Nelson is to give Sam Darnold a cleaner pocket and create more room for running backs. Nelson's combination of power, hand placement, and leverage makes him a particularly effective interior blocker capable of creating movement at the point of attack while maintaining control of his assignment, directly addressing Seattle's offensive line deficiencies that have limited Darnold's decision-making window.
