Yahoo Sports NFL on J.J. McCarthy

McCarthy earned his trade; Vikings didn't give up on talent, but on performance.

J.J. McCarthy's departure from the Vikings was driven by his own performance and development rather than the team giving up on him. Tyler Forness stated: 'He got himself traded. The Vikings didn't do it because they wanted to give up on him. He earned it.' This framing suggests McCarthy's talent was never in question, but his on-field performance warranted the move.
