As bad as they are, the Titans are still trying to develop 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward into an effective NFL quarterback. That is not going well. Trading away their best running back and more or less neutering their run game isn't going to help their young quarterback.

Ward's development with Titans is not going well; run game support may be needed.

Ward, the 2025 No. 1 overall pick for the Titans, is not developing effectively as an NFL quarterback. The Titans' decision to potentially hold onto Tony Pollard rather than trade him is partly motivated by the desire to support Ward's development by maintaining their run game, as trading away their best running back would neuter their offensive support for the young quarterback.
