If you remember with all those McDaniel teams, we would pop 30, 40 and 50 yards runs BUT when we tried to run a for two yards with Ollie Gordon, he was BLOWN UP in the back field. Pathetic! We could not get the two yards when the other team KNOWS it is coming. I see improvement in this field with our OLINE. I see improvement in this team.

Gordon's short-yardage struggles improving with O-line upgrades; still respectable secondary run production.

Gordon struggled in short-yardage situations against New England, getting blown up in the backfield when attempting to gain 2 yards on known run plays; however, the source sees improvement trajectory with the Dolphins' offensive line upgrades. On first down, many of Gordon's runs went for 0–1 yard, but he managed 6–8 yards on second down, indicating New England had to respect the run game even if they didn't wear down the defense. The source notes this is a sign of progress for the team overall.
