Yahoo Sports NFL on Ashton Jeanty

Jeanty benched in Week 8 with 2 carries; carry split vs. 49ers will reveal if demotion is permanent.

Jeanty was essentially benched in Week 8 against the Jets, finishing with 2 carries for 9 yards while Mike Washington had 25 for 83. The demotion came after Jeanty made disparaging comments about the Jets, which prompted former Jets head coach Rex Ryan to call him 'soft as Charmin.' While the comments may have played a factor in Kubiak's decision to reduce his role in a pivotal playoff game, the 25-2 carry split will be telling if it continues against San Francisco this weekend—a strong sign Jeanty wasn't just being disciplined but is losing the lead-back role.
