Chiefs' short-yardage efficiency down in 2026 after strong Hunt-era performance.

Kansas City's short-yardage conversion effectiveness has declined in 2026 after excelling in those situations by handing off to former running back Kareem Hunt last season. Mahomes acknowledged the drop-off during his press conference, stating 'It's something that we've been better at in the past years, but obviously this year, we haven't been able to execute in those situations.' He attributed the struggles to execution and alignment issues rather than play-calling philosophy.
