Yahoo Sports NFL on Ty Simpson
From the article
He looked as ready as you possibly could during the preseason. For someone who the consensus said needed time to develop, Simpson looked poised under pressure and kept the ball out of harm's way during the exhibition games. Through eight weeks Simpson has been a healthy scratch on game days. I have a hard time believing that Bennett is more capable and dependable than Simpson. It's probably time for the rookie to usurp the veteran within the depth chart.
STACKED’s take
Simpson's preseason impressed; source says he should replace Bennett as backup now.
Simpson was drafted 13th overall by the Rams to futureproof the quarterback position. He impressed during preseason, looking poised under pressure and keeping the ball out of harm's way despite being a green prospect entering the draft. Through eight weeks he has been a healthy scratch on game days, dressed as the emergency third quarterback behind Matthew Stafford and Stetson Bennett. The source argues it is time to reassess whether Simpson should be the third quarterback, suggesting he should usurp Bennett as the number two backup given Bennett's expiring contract and the likelihood the Rams will separate from him at season's end. The source believes Simpson will eventually replace Bennett as backup and questions why not immediately.
