Pride Of Detroit on Ollie Gordon II
From the article
Gordon has been a lot of fun to watch as he breaks out this year, but he is a power-back who works extremely well as a change-of-pace option behind Achane... The outside zone, stretch concepts were designed for Achane's elite sideline-to-sideline track speed. Gordon is a one-cut, downhill runner.
STACKED’s take
Gordon's power-back style creates boom-or-bust rushing; Slowik adjusting play-calls from Achane's speed-based designs.
Gordon is a power-back who works extremely well as a change-of-pace option behind De'Von Achane but is now leading the Dolphins' rushing attack in Achane's absence. His performance has been boom-or-bust: when he finds space, he breaks it for big gains, but the run game ranks 26th in rush success rate and 26th in rush DVOA despite ranking 9th in EPA/rush. The rushing attack was originally designed for Achane's elite sideline-to-sideline speed with outside zone and stretch concepts, but coordinator Bobby Slowik has adjusted to Gordon's one-cut, downhill running style by pivoting to more gap and inside-zone looks. Gordon has been fun to watch breaking out this year, but the Dolphins' ground game will likely remain boom-or-bust all season until defenses are forced to back out of the box.
