Keaton Mitchell: most explosive back by metrics, 40-target projection in PPR
Keaton Mitchell's athleticism profile rivals Devon Achane's despite size difference; he hit 20+ mph seven times on only 59 carries last season, potentially the most explosive back in the NFL by tested metrics. At 179 pounds (vs. Achane's 188), the BMI difference is not massive. Unlike Achane, Mitchell's collegiate yards per attempt improved with volume at East Carolina, suggesting he can handle increased workload. After tearing his ACL and being behind Derrick Henry, if he gets significant volume in Mike McDaniel's offense—which emphasizes passing game usage and space—Ben Gretch believes he'll handle more than people realize. Gretch projects Mitchell for approximately 40 targets in the Chargers offense, which would carve out meaningful PPR league upside; the offense ran 13.0% running back target share last year (up from 11.6% prior year), and with the Chargers expected to increase that to around 20%, Mitchell can accumulate significant receiving volume.
