Waddle's per-route elite efficiency (28% target rate, 5th YPRR) masked by scheme collapse.

Without Tyreek Hill from week five on, Waddle led the league in air yards, was targeted on 28% of his routes, and was fifth in yards per route run. JJ Zachariason notes that despite Sean Payton calling Waddle a 'Joker' (which in Payton's Denver tenure means 'we won't give you the ball'), Waddle on a per-route basis was one of the league's best WRs. The poor production was due to McDaniel scheming around his weaknesses as the offense fell apart.
