Xavier Legette must step up as an X receiver in his third NFL season to allow McMillan more slot snaps; however, Legette flopped in that role during his rookie season when promoted after the Panthers traded Deontay Johnson in 2024. Harmon notes the pressure is now on Legette to contribute as a viable X receiver—ideally at least 30% of snaps—a role the Panthers likely did not plan for him this year before Braswell's injury. Legette is a functional third or fourth receiver in the Panthers' room but was never positioned to be maximized at the X receiver position. As a bigger body who can credibly take snaps at boundary, Legette's limited upside at X made him unable to fill the role needed to free up McMillan for slot usage, necessitating the Panthers' draft additions of Coker and Braswell.
