McCarthy was the Vikings' second-choice in the 2024 draft after Drake Maye and has had a tough pro career start. After league-bottom performance last season, he is now competing for a backup job with Carson Wentz while trying to develop the necessary skillset to be a quality starter in year three of his rookie contract. There is zero chance his fifth-year option will be exercised, and next year is the last of his rookie contract.
