Tyler Shough fantasy football insight from Hayden Winks - PPR Rankings

Shough had a very competent rookie season. It came as a 26-year-old, sure. But he's well on his way to becoming an average NFL starter and someone who is a bargain on a 2nd-round rookie contract. Shough was the leader in yards per attempt on plays excluding throws to his first read, per PFF. All QBs, not just rookies. That is extremely impressive!!! A lot of that credit is because he can read the field and play within the pocket. Especially by rookie standards, Shough can throw the ball on time and over the middle. He stood tall in the pocket, scanned zone defenses, and threw with touch and passable accuracy within 5-19 yards. That's a valuable baseline. Shough's arm talent is rock solid. He can take some RPMs off it to layer throws, and he can throw on the run to both sides. The play-action boot is in his bag. He can also drop a 15-yard sideline shot with the best of them, but he is more average in terms of pinpoint accuracy on crossing patterns. Some explosives were left on the field by placing the ball on the back shoulder on these digs. That said, a rookie throwing digs is rare, so I don't want to nitpick. Shough's accuracy on downfield passes was more scattered, and he doesn't have overwhelming power for someone as big as he is. He's definitely capable of chunking the ball downfield in terms of strength, but it did not come together as a rookie. His catchable ball rate on 20+ air yard passes was near the bottom.
