STACKED’s take
Hampton's 5.1 YPC on outside zone with McDaniel's system projects 300+ touches and first-round value.
Omarion Hampton flashed real juice last season despite a difficult situation, posting a 5.1-yard average on outside zone carries (nearly 30 percent of his workload) behind a line that graded near the bottom in both pass and run blocking. New coordinator Mike McDaniel brought fullback Alec Ingold from Miami and is set up to run heavy outside zone, the same concept that pushed De'Von Achane to 91 carries at 5.7 yards per carry in a similar role. If McDaniel fed the 188-pound Achane roughly 300 touches a year, there's no obvious reason a 220-pound Hampton doesn't see at least that workload. Hampton posted 15.1 points a game and five touchdowns in nine games despite a broken ankle. Jim Coventry sees this as a perfect storm for a true three-down workhorse role and wouldn't blink at taking him in the back half of the first round.
