McCord's 220 preseason yards and composure make him a real contender for the backup QB job.

McCord has clearly outplayed Taylor in preseason competition; he is currently sixth in the NFL in preseason passing yards with 220 yards over two games (24 for 35, 69 percent completion, 6.3 yards per attempt) and has orchestrated three two-minute drills at the end of first halves, including two in a single game against Denver. He is hitting out routes with timing and moving the chains while showing composure in the pocket, and after his performance against the Broncos, the backup quarterback job behind Jordan Love is potentially up for grabs for the first time all summer.
