Coach DC says AJ Barner could be a 70- to 75-catch player, with 6-10 touchdowns, as a featured pass catcher — approaching Trey McBride's level of productivity. But Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Rashid Shaheed, Cooper Kupp, Tory Horton, a commitment to the run game, and an emerging Elijah Arroyo will all need touches, too.

Barner projects to 70-75 catches and 6-10 TDs but faces target competition.

Coach DC projects AJ Barner could be a 70- to 75-catch player with 6-10 touchdowns as a featured pass catcher, approaching Trey McBride's level of productivity. However, this ceiling faces headwinds from target competition: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Rashid Shaheed, Cooper Kupp, Tory Horton, a commitment to the run game, and emerging Elijah Arroyo will all need touches. Given the Shanahan tree's preference for running back involvement in the pass game and Arroyo's blocking development determining two-TE usage frequency, Barner is more likely to fall short of that 70-75 catch ceiling over 17 games.
