The situation at WR has put Smith on the practice squad, where his speed will be valuable to practice certain looks. Smith has a long way to go when it comes to being a viable enough player to get touches in this ultra-experienced offense for the Cowboys, but is a capable gadget player with strong hands as a receiver that Dallas is willing to continue developing.

Rookie Smith's speed valuable in practice; long path to gameday snaps.

Seventh-round pick Anthony Smith came to his first training camp but ran into a crowded receiver room with CeeDee Lamb, George Pickels, and Ryan Flournoy at the top, plus Jonathan Mingo's breakout and UDFA Camden Brown's preseason success. De Adedayo Odeleye notes Smith is on the practice squad where his speed will be valuable in practice, and while he has a long way to go to be viable in this ultra-experienced offense, he's a capable gadget player with strong hands that Dallas is developing as one of just two 2026 draft picks spent on offense.
