Allen is a longtime backup quarterback in his eleventh NFL season who has only started ten games during that time; he has worked with Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Fleury in the past, having been with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 and 2024 when Fleury was the tight ends coach, making them more familiar with each other than other candidates. Allen's most recent start came in 2024 with Fleury and the 49ers, where he completed 56.7% of his passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Allen spent 2025 with the Tennessee Titans before signing with the New York Giants this offseason; he was cut by the Giants during final roster cuts and is currently free to sign with anyone.
