He ran only 13 routes compared to Irving's 21, and Irving has superior career receiving production (8.5 YPC, 89.4% catch rate, 7.6 YPT vs. Gainwell's 6.9, 78.6%, 5.4). While Gainwell's pass-blocking ability could create a path to role, Week 1 usage suggests Irving remains the primary pass-catching back.
