Quentin Johnston fantasy football insight from Hayden Winks - PPR Rankings

Johnston went from total bust to staying afloat over the past couple years. He's still got clear warts, but they didn't stop him from being the WR23 on WR33 usage last year in fantasy football. He's run a little hot on TDs to get there (9% TD rate), though that's what we should expect with Justin Herbert, OC Mike McDaniel, and his speed on these run-away routes. We're expecting Herbert to compete for top-8 passing TDs and yards this year assuming the OL isn't on the injured reserve all year, so Johnston simply has to just be on the field enough to stay in the WR3/flex mix. There is some risk for routes, however. Ladd McConkey is the most talented all-around player to me and is a great fit for the quick-hitting McDaniel offense, then sophomore 2nd-rounder Tre' Harris has a blocking advantage while also having room to breakout at QJ's expense. McDaniel also loves a full back, has three RBs to get involved, and will use all three TEs plenty. The Dolphins were 29th in dropbacks per game (20.6) with 3+ WRs on the field since 2022 under McDaniel. They were 3rd in dropbacks per game (14.5) with 0-2 WRs, so tracking the 2-TE set personnel groupings in camp is key. In general, Johnston is a run-away route receiver only, but McDaniel seems to understand that based on the offseason videos the team has released. There's room for slightly more quick-hitting plays to see if he can get back to his TCU YAC days, but those will likely flow to Ladd, TEs, and RBs the most.
