0:23Go back to school with Welch's Fruit Snacks, now made with no artificial dyes.
0:28Welcome back to the Adam Schefter Podcast, as we head out of Week 1 and straight into Week 2, where the NFL storylines don't stop.
0:36One person said to me on Monday that he thought there were more storylines in Week 1 this year than any other
0:44year, and I said to him, that's how it is every year.
0:48But usually, they involve significant injuries, quarterbacks, and that didn't happen.
0:52There were different storylines, comebacks, teams collapsing, different types of storylines than we normally see.
0:57But we're going to get into all that this week with my friend, my colleague, the co-host of the Pat McAfee Show,
1:04Ty Schmidt, who joins us for this week's Six Pack, which is brought to you by ZipRecruiter.
1:10Try it for free at ZipRecruiter.com slash Adam. Meet your match on ZipRecruiter.
1:14Ty, Six Pack. Thank you, Shefty. It's great to be back.
1:18It's great to have Week 1 in the books.
1:21Almost had the highest scoring Week 1 of all time.
1:25There's your storyline right there. Exactly. I don't know if a lot of people expected that, but like you mentioned, pretty much
1:32every, you know, for the most part, I'd say almost every game was entertaining or had something, you know, very interesting happen to it.
1:40And that isn't typically, you know, the way the NFL season starts, I feel like.
1:45So great Week 1, and I'm excited to talk about it here with you.
1:50And you know what else was unusual Week 1?
1:53I was home sick. I couldn't go in studio.
1:56So I had to stay home for Week 1.
1:59I don't remember the last time, other than maybe the COVID year, and history repeats itself, that I had to be home
2:07for Week 1, which was very strange. But I do remember, after Sunday Countdown ended, going into a room with my son,
2:14and we had set up our room the way we can.
2:18Like, I can't get all the games on. We get about four games on, and I'm watching the games, and I turn
2:26to him about 20 minutes in, and I go, This is glorious.
2:30To have football back like that on the screens.
2:33This is glorious. And it was, Ty. Yeah, I agree.
2:36Yeah, my wife was out of town, so I had my three girls by myself.
2:41So I had to watch, you know, four games on an iPad, which isn't ideal, you know, but it helped me kind
2:49of get back into the swing of things a little bit.
2:53And then the two, you know, stand-alone Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football games were great.
2:58So just a great week all around in general.
3:02Hard to ask for much more out of Week 1.
3:05But let's get right into the six-pack, Shefty, and let's start with Monday Night Football.
3:10How about them Chiefs? What a performance from the Kansas City Chiefs.
3:14What's your biggest takeaway there? Well, first of all, Patrick Mahomes is back.
3:19Secondly, he has a run game in Kansas City, the likes of which we haven't seen him have in Kansas City.
3:26The yardage that Kenneth Walker ran for last night was the most yards that any running back has had playing with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
3:35Mahomes looked incredible. He looked like he had a chip on his shoulder.
3:39And it's funny because I've had a lot of people say, Patrick Mahomes is going to come back this year with a vengeance.
3:47Watch. And then there were a couple of trainers that called me.
3:51They're like, nobody can be this human and bounce back and be regular and not be affected in some type of way.
3:59And I got to be honest with you. When you watched him on Monday night, he did not look affected.
4:05He looked like he was always there. He hadn't suffered a torn ACL and LCL nine months ago.
4:12And it also helps when you have a running back like Kenneth Walker.
4:16I was on the phone with an NFL executive this morning and he's like, boy, that was a great deal that the Chiefs made for Kenneth Walker.
4:25When Kenneth Walker is healthy and is talking to somebody who's rostered him on my fancy team the last couple of years,
4:33he's not always healthy, but when he's healthy, he is a beast.
4:37He is a force. And if he stays healthy all year long, watch out for the Chiefs.
4:43And if you think about it now, we're going back into the future a little bit.
4:48You know why? Because it looks like just immediately, I know this is about the Chiefs.
4:53We'll get back to them. It looks like we've got the Chiefs with Mahomes, the Bills with Josh Allen, the Ravens with
5:01Lamar Jackson, and the Bengals with Joe Burrow as teams that really stand out.
5:06Didn't we see that all during the early 2020s, COVID right after?
5:10It looks like after one week, it's early, but it looks like all those teams are going to have something to say
5:17this year and how the AFC goes. Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
5:21And that's the way it should be. I think that's how everyone wants, you know, it was, I don't want to say
5:29it was weird last year because the playoffs are always great, but, you know, getting to that final two weeks of the
5:36postseason before the Super Bowl and not having that entire cast of characters out there, it's just something about, you want to
5:44see those guys in the AFC, you know, in the divisional round and in the AFC championship.
5:50And you're right, it's early, but after one week, it certainly looks like all four of those teams might be poised to,
5:57and you mentioned it, Kenneth Walker, doing that against the Broncos defense as well.
6:02So it's not just some throwaway, oh, hey, he did it against the, you know, some, he did it against the Dolphins
6:10or a team who we don't expect anything. I mean, this is arguably, you know, them or the Texans or, you know, maybe a handful of other teams.
6:19This is arguably the best defense in the NFL last year.
6:23And I don't think anyone expected the Chiefs to do what they did last night, largely in part of him.
6:30He ran them over. I'm going to tell you something else.
6:33I watched Emmitt Johnson, their rookie running back in the preseason, and he really impressed me a lot.
6:40And so if Kenneth Walker were to miss any time, I think Emmitt Johnson is also really good.
6:46He's not the Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker, but they came in with two power, talented backs behind Mahomes.
6:52They basically redid their run game. And like I said, it looks like to the detriment of the AFC and the NFL,
7:00Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are back.
7:03It's funny you mentioned that about Emmitt Johnson because I have Kenneth Walker on my fantasy team, and that was the first
7:10thing I thought of last night is, I got to get this guy for the game.
7:16No one has him yet, but I need to.
7:19You're talking fantasy. One of my plans, one of my plans, there are a few plans that you have in fantasy.
7:26I was going to take Kenneth Walker and Emmitt Johnson.
7:29Now, in one of my leagues, I had a choice between Omari and Hampton and Kenneth Walker, and I chose Hampton, and
7:37after one week, it looks like I'm going to regret that decision.
7:41So that was a poor decision, it looks like.
7:44We'll see if I can still be rewarded. But if I was taking Walker, knowing how good he is and knowing the
7:52injuries he's had to play with in recent years, I was 100% taking Emmitt Johnson, too.
7:57Yeah, especially when you look at his usage last night, and he talked with SVP after the game and basically said, like, I don't care.
8:06I want to be the bell cow. Give me all the carries.
8:10Give me all the receptions. He looked unbelievable. The Chiefs looked unbelievable.
8:14What a night for them. All right, Shefty, let's move on to topic number two.
8:19Another one of those teams you mentioned that looks poised to make a deep run.
8:24Boy, the Bills. They play the Lions on Thursday night, and I think you could probably argue maybe not, you know, I
8:32mean, what the Chiefs did were impressive. Several other teams looked very impressive.
8:36But them going into Houston and putting 36 points up on the Houston Texans, man, was that impressive.
8:42Well, Ty, just like you're talking about Kenneth Walker running through the Denver defense, we can talk about Josh Allen shredding the Texans defense.
8:50That's what he did. Who thought that Kenneth Walker would do that to Denver?
8:55Who thought Josh Allen would go into his own personal house of horrors in Houston, where he had lost four games, where
9:03he hadn't won, where he got tormented on Thursday night last year, and light up arguably one of the best defenses in football.
9:10But he did that. He did that on Sunday, went up and down the field.
9:16He was incredible. He was incredible. And again, I just keep coming back to this.
9:21Okay, we got the Chiefs and Mahomes, the Bills and Allen, the Ravens and Lamar.
9:26And the Bengals and Joe Burrow. I'm just telling you, I see it already.
9:31I see it already. It's one week, but it is not too early to say, with those quarterbacks and those teams, we're
9:38going to be seeing those teams plenty this season.
9:41We're going to be talking about those teams plenty this season.
9:45There will be other teams that jump into the mix.
9:48Let's not forget Jacksonville. I think they're underrated and overlooked.
9:52New England still will be heard from. Denver and the Chargers will be back.
9:57But I'm just telling you, it seems pretty apparent where this is going.
10:01Now, Buffalo. Buffalo. I just look at the way that team responded.
10:05And we talked about this in the offseason. The New York Knicks had gone to a certain level, and they had a
10:13deep playoff run, losing to your Pacers before they changed coaches, moving on from Tom Thibodeau, who did a great job, and
10:20going with Mike Brown, and they win a championship.
10:23Knicks in five. The Buffalo Bills had a great run from Sean McDermott.
10:28Sean McDermott may turn out to be the most sought-after coach this offseason.
10:32Certainly one of the most sought-after coaches. But it felt like that team had gone as far as it was going to
10:40go, and it needed to change coaches to breathe a little life, a little new fresh air into the organization.
10:46And they bring in Joe Brady. You saw the team reacted on Sunday.
10:51You saw the post-game celebration. You saw they played.
10:54And they have a new coach. And now the thing that I'm looking forward to this week, Thursday night, great game against the Lions in a new stadium.
11:03Like, we get to see this all unfold. Like, kind of a cool thing to watch.
11:09But if Buffalo is going to go into Houston and do that in week one, just like Kenneth Walker running through the
11:16Denver defense in week one, who's going to slow down Josh Allen?
11:20Who's going to slow him down this year? No one.

12:05Stock up on Welch's Fruit Snacks, made with whole fruit, and now made with no artificial dyes.
12:11It's a snack kids already love, and one you can feel good about giving them.
12:16Go back to school with Welch's Fruit Snacks, now made with no artificial dyes.
12:21This episode is brought to you by State Farm.
12:24Listening to this podcast instead of doom-scrolling? Smart move.
12:27Another smart move? Getting help from one of State Farm's 19,000 local agents when you choose to bundle home and auto.
12:34Bundling. Just another way to save with the personal price plan.
12:38Prices are based on rating plans that vary by state.
12:41Coverage options are selected by the customer. Availability, amount of discounts and savings, and eligibility vary by state.
12:47First, I'll say I love your comparison of the Knicks hiring Mike Brown to kind of get them over the hump.
12:55And I agree with that. The biggest distinction being, though, that, and what's most impressive is, Joe Brady's never been a head coach before.
13:03Mike Brown was a very seasoned, you know, had been a head coach multiple times, kind of knows what he's doing.
13:10Like, Joe Brady has never been a head coach before.
13:13Yeah, he's very comfortable with all those guys because he's been the offensive coordinator.
13:18But we have Chuck in here on Thursdays, Chuck Pagano, and, you know, we talked to all these.
13:24Everyone says that when you go from being a coordinator to being a head coach, the amount of stuff that gets added
13:32to your plate, it makes your head spin so much.
13:35You have no, you know, the amount of decisions you have to make that you did not have to worry about before.
13:43And to go into Houston and get a win that the first week, you know, just so impressive.
13:49And I think that game is also a great microcosm of how small the margin of error is in these NFL games.
13:56We see Josh Allen throw kind of just that lollipop up to Kamari Lasseter.
14:01He can't intercept it. And then the next play, he throws an absolute laser to Joshua Palmer, you know, for the game winner.
14:09With guys that good, you've got to make them pay when they give you one like that.
14:15But it really does. I mean, every year we do this with Josh Allen.
14:20It's like, how can this guy continue to get better?
14:23And somehow he does. And now really the only question is, can this guy go win a Super Bowl this year?
14:30And it's funny you're talking about your fancy draft because I was watching the game on Sunday with my son.
14:37And we're both sitting there watching Josh Allen. And we're like, how did he fall in the draft?
14:43Like, why would you just not take Josh Allen early in your draft, locking points at the quarterback position?
14:50Like, every year, like, I thought you could win on a quarterback.
14:54But you don't pass on greatness. And he's unbelievable.
14:57He's unbelievable. We had a guy in here. We have a 16-team league in the office.
15:02I think he, I want to say he took him, like, fifth overall.
15:07And he caught hell for it. Everyone killed him, you know, you moron.
15:11And after week one, you know, it's like, well.
15:14Who's laughing now? Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exactly. Who's laughing now, right?
15:18Yeah, I mean, Josh Allen is ridiculous. Arguably the most impressive, maybe, stat line.
15:23Well, I don't know. We had a lot of impressive stat lines of week one.
15:28Which brings us to item number three of this week's six-pack.
15:32Boy, the Bears. I think a lot of people thought that they would be a candidate for regression.
15:38And they go out and put up a 60-burger on the Carolina Panthers.
15:42How impressive have the Bears been to you, albeit through one week of the season?
15:47Regress my ass. I mean, give me a break.
15:50It's unbelievable, right? Like, what's incredible is that this is what Ben Johnson said.
15:55And when he said that he wanted to be the highest scoring offense and set records, we all talked about the fact
16:03that he was just putting an even larger target on his back for the coming season.
16:08And the back of the... And in week one, it didn't matter.
16:12It didn't matter. And after the game, he went back to it.
16:16Yeah, we want to be the best. We want to set the records.
16:21We want to win Super Bowls. And it's a different message than we get from other coaches.
16:27Other coaches like, we're on to Cincinnati. We're on to next week.
16:31One game at a time. All the coach speak that we're used to hearing.
16:35Him, it's like, bring it all on. We want it all.
16:39It's all interesting. And I really think, like, he understands this is entertainment.
16:44This is part of the deal. People love to turn to football for their escape.
16:49They want to be brought in. They want to be amused.
16:53And Ben Johnson is providing incredible coaching and great entertainment and fun for the fans that follow the Bears.
16:59That's what he's doing right now. Because he gets it.
17:02And do you doubt that they're going to make a run for the points record after 59 in week?
17:0959! On the road! No, I don't. And, you know, it pains me to say it as a Packers fan, but this guy is, he's awesome.
17:18He is absolutely awesome. I mean, they, you know, there's a reason that he was sought after the way he was.
17:25And you mentioned the entertainment aspect that he actually, you know, a thousand percent delivers on.
17:30But also, like, he's a hard ass. And I think you're starting to see that trickle down a little bit in Caleb
17:38Williams, which a lot of people thought when he got drafted out of USC and then coming from Oklahoma, this guy's flashy,
17:45you know, does, is this going to work? And, you know, his comments post-game, like week one, saying, you know, that, honestly,
17:53that's probably the worst we're going to, you know, he, he's not satisfied with his stat line or what they did.
18:00And we'll see, because obviously you can't, you know, you're not going to score 59 points every game and you can't give up 37 points every, every game.
18:10But if you're going to score the way that they envision themselves scoring, then you don't have to have the best defense in the league.
18:18So, yeah, Bears, wildly impressive. Ben Johnson, wildly impressive.
18:21And, boy, that, that regression talk after week one certainly looks silly.
18:25And here is one other thing to keep in mind on the Bears, Ty.
18:30Ready? The next three games are at home. The next three, for the next three weeks, Minnesota, Philadelphia, the New York Jets.
18:38Let's see if Ben Johnson can keep the men on a record scoring pace.
18:42It'd be really fun to follow that, wouldn't it?
18:45Yeah. Well, actually, I shouldn't say that. Not for you.
18:49Not for you. But, I mean, it would not be fun to follow.
18:53But, yes, in general, their offense is very fun to watch.
18:57There's no two ways about that. But we'll see.
19:00We'll see. Starting with 59 certainly puts them in pretty good position to do so.
19:05All right, Chet, we've talked about a couple of the teams that looked very impressive in week one.
19:11Let's move on to topic number four of this week's six-pack.
19:15Which teams do you think were the most underwhelming or teams that maybe you expected a lot out of and they just didn't look impressive at all?
19:24Again, it is natural to jump to overreaction conclusions after one week.
19:28The Bears are the greatest. I've already proclaimed four great teams in the AFC with great quarterbacks going to be battling each other.
19:36But there are a couple of teams that you look at right now, a few teams, and you say, there doesn't seem
19:44to be a lot of hope this season. We knew that Miami wouldn't be good.
19:49No surprise there. They played hard on Sunday. And I think they've got some good young players.
19:55But $182 million over the salary cap. Ten rookies they're counting on.
19:59Playing rookie receivers everywhere. Like, you know it's going to take some time in Miami.
20:04All good there. Cleveland. Like, that was disappointing on Sunday.
20:07That was disappointing. And I think the one that was the most surprising to me, and I'll let the fans speak for it.
20:15The fans in Tennessee booed the Titans in one week.
20:19They have a new head coach, Robert Sala. He got booed on Sunday.
20:23They spent all this money in the offseason adding all these players.
20:27And they got obliterated at home by the New York Jets.
20:31And so when that starts to happen, you're like, whoa.
20:34Like, we know the Dolphins are going to be in the quarterback market.
20:39We know the Browns have put a lot of energy, thought, focus to 2027 quarterbacks, and they're going to be in the quarterback market.
20:47Are the Titans going to be in the quarterback market in 2027, Ty?
20:51I mean, that's a good question. You know, I think everyone assumed that Brian Dable was going to get Cam Ward to kind of make that big jump.
21:01But I don't know. Yeah, they did not look good on Sunday.
21:05There's no two ways about that. Yikes. And it's one week.
21:09And it's one week. So I don't want to jump to any conclusions, right?
21:14But you get the Jets at home. It's Robert Sala's former team.
21:18Like, if you're going to come out and play a good game, like I spoke to some people who were there.
21:25They're like, it was really hot. And there wasn't a lot of energy in the stadium.
21:30And I'm like, how could there not be a lot of energy in the stadium on opening day?
21:36How could that be? Right? And so Tennessee now is Philadelphia at home before they have to go at New York, at Baltimore.
21:44Like, oh yeah. Yeah. Not great. I mean, they, you know, you better get things rolling pretty quickly because otherwise, yeah, if
21:52this thing spins out of control, you might be looking at quarterback, you know, at the top of the draft next year.
21:59But there are some teams you just look at, you know, like it's going to get late early.
22:05Yeah. No, I agree. I think two teams who, you know, didn't look great, but you know, you don't necessarily need to sound the alarm yet.
22:14Dallas. I mean, you know, for all the talk that we did coming into the season.
22:20And again, you know, I know we do that every year, but it was a little bit different this year because it did seem quiet.
22:28All the improvements they made on defense. They just didn't look great against the Giants.
22:33And maybe the Giants are much better, you know, a lot of people had them as kind of a sneaky playoff team.
22:41They looked to be, you know, in one week, at least a lot better than, you know, a lot of people expected.
22:48They just looked good. And maybe that's the, you know, John Harbaugh effect.
22:53And then the Packers, same thing, just another collapse.
22:56Their offensive line couldn't block anybody. I'm sure they will kind of get that figured out.
23:01But again, with not having Micah, the first potential five weeks, like it could get late early for them too.
23:08If they can't block anybody and they start, oh, and four, you know, is it even going to matter when Micah Parsons gets back?
23:16Now, I do want to remind you that last year at this time, the New England Patriots were coming off a week
23:24one loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, right? Seattle Seahawks lost in week one.
23:29The Seattle Seahawks went on to win the Super Bowl.
23:32The New England Patriots won the AFC and the Las Vegas Raiders finished with the number one overall pick.
23:39So week one can be a liar. But there are some signs and trends that were really interesting in week one that
23:46we're going to be tracking here in week two.
23:49Right. And it's also just human nature. You wait all year.
23:53You watch your team. You get excited. And then they look terrible and you're ready to burn everything down.
23:59Or on the flip side, they look great and you're ready to anoint them Super Bowl champions.
24:05That's just kind of the way it goes. That's why the NFL is the best.

26:10Shefty, let's move on to topic number five of this week's six-pack.
26:14You have a game ball to give out, and it's for someone that probably a lot of people wouldn't suspect.
26:21Well, I think that the game ball this week, and we haven't given out a game ball on this podcast, but the
26:29game ball this week goes to the Arizona Cardinals head coach, Mike LaFleur.
26:33Now, I know you're down on LaFleur's right now, Ty, and I apologize for that.
26:38Not on him. No, but let me just say this.
26:42There was something that caught my eye that I read it, and sometimes you read something, you're like, whoa.
26:48By leading Arizona to a 26-14 upset over the Chargers, Mike LaFleur became the first Cardinals full-time head coach to win his debut since Don Coryell in 1973.
26:581973. 53 years ago. How many coaches have the Arizona Cardinals hired in 53 years?
27:03I'm going to guess, off the top of my head, minimum 10 head coaches had the opportunity to do that.
27:09It's probably closer to 15. Probably closer to 15.
27:13But not one in the last 53 years has ever won his debut game with the Arizona Cardinals until Mike LaFleur did it in L.A.
27:21against Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers in a game in which they were heavy underdogs, and I know my father, Jeffrey Schefter, already lost his survivor pool.
27:30Oh, yikes. Yeah, that's rough. There have been 14 head coaches for the Arizona Cardinals over the last 53 years.
27:37Like you said, I think that line closed at 10.
27:4110-point underdogs to win. I mean, just super impressive.
27:44Connor mentioned this on Pat's show yesterday. You could see the way Trey McBride and some other guys were coming up and
27:51kind of embracing Mike LaFleur after the game, too.
27:54Those guys, whatever message he's preaching, it's certainly kind of caught on.
27:58And I'll tell you what, to start the season like that, that can do wonders.
28:03I mean, who knows? They still might not be any good, but what a way to start the season.
28:10And kudos to him. That was incredible. And I'm going to tell you this right now, the Arizona Cardinals will still have
28:17a tough time to make making the playoffs. Certainly.
28:20Okay, we're not going to go overboard on the Cardinals after week one.
28:25But what I am going to point out to you is that their backfield with Jeremiah Love and Tyler Algier is loaded.
28:32Like, really good. Trey McBride, with all apologies to anybody else right now, is the best tight end in the game.
28:40He is a baller. That guy goes out and catches everything and runs over people and takes hits.
28:46He is a throwback. And he is a monster.
28:49And he is, to me, the best tight end in the game right now.
28:54I know Brock Bowers can be. Colson Loveland's going to be great.
28:58Tucker Craft is awesome. There are some really good tight ends.
29:01Trey McBride is a monster. Michael Wilson is a baller at wide receiver.
29:06However, Jacoby Brissett is the steady veteran presence who I think is just a really solid quarterback.
29:12And so I think that Arizona team is better than people realize.
29:16They showed it on Sunday. The idea that they're one of the worst teams in the league, I'm sorry.
29:22They're not. They're better. But again, 14 head coaches.
29:25Thank you for counting, Ty. 14 head coaches. And Mike LaFleur becomes the first Arizona coach since Don Correale, who I believe
29:33is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, by the way.
29:37Don Coryell, Pro Football Hall of Famer, 53 years to win his opening game as a head coach in Arizona.
29:43There's a reason they've had 14 coaches. There's a reason none of them have ever won.
29:49And Mike LaFleur, again, hadn't done it before, but I just felt like it was worthy here.
29:55Game ball to that guy. Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
29:58And listen, our Cardinals fans should be very excited, deservedly so.
30:02But like you said, you know, in terms of a tough road to get to the playoffs, their next nine games at
30:0949ers, at Giants, home against the Lions, at Rams, home against the Broncos, at Cowboys, at Seahawks, home for the Rams, at Chiefs.
30:17I mean, so... Again, I'm not telling you they make a playoff.
30:21I'm telling you they're going to be in a lot of those games.
30:26Absolutely. Because they're a tough team. Yeah. And they play hard.
30:29And they played hard for him. So, yeah, kudos to Mike LaFleur.
30:34That was awesome. What a way to get your first win.
30:37I think both of his parents were there as well.
30:41So, you know, good on them. Glad they weren't in Minnesota to see the Packers get their ass kicked for their other sons' 2026 debut.
30:49Okay, Shefty, let's move on to the sixth and final topic of this week's six-pack.
30:54In your opinion, what was the most interesting conversation of the week in a week that was filled with a lot of interesting conversations?
31:03I was on the phone with another executive. Love to have these conversations and hear what people are thinking, what they're observing.
31:10And we talked about the 49ers beating the Rams in Australia.
31:14And there was somebody who said to me, I go, Fred Warner is incredible, the 49ers linebacker.
31:20I said, he is the best linebacker in the game.
31:23And the person paused and said, can I correct you?
31:26And I said, sure. And I thought to myself, are you going to correct me that Fred Warner is the best linebacker in the game?
31:35And he said, Fred Warner is the best defensive player in the game.
31:39The best defensive player in the game. And I thought to myself, whoa, whoa.
31:44I stopped. I thought about it. I'm like, wow, that's pretty deep.
31:48In a game in which we talked all about Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald, the guy that made a difference, the guy that made plays was Fred Warner.
31:58And he does it time and time again. And when he's out there healthy playing, they are a different defense when he's out there.
32:06When he's not, the defense is mortal and beatable and not the same.
32:10He's back. And if he's going to be out there, that defense always is going to be heard from.
32:17There are a lot of great defensive players in the league.
32:21I saw your eyes there, Shiftai. Who is coming to your mind there like players in your mind?
32:27Well, like you said, I mean, you know, Miles Garrett, obviously we'll see Micah Parsons.
32:32There's a bunch of cornerbacks, you know, and it just hit.
32:36I don't dispute that when he is healthy and he's, you know, he's certainly probably one of, if not the best linebacker in the NFL.
32:44But that's an interesting debate. I just, I do think, you know, he, I mean, I guess he's, he's in the conversation.
32:52He just wouldn't be the first guy I would mention when the best defensive player in the NFL, especially when you have
32:59Miles Garrett coming off a record breaking season. Like I thought it was so interesting.
33:04Actually, there were two conversations because I sent him the text.
33:08I sent him the text Friday at nine o'clock at night.
33:12I said, Hey Fred, I was on the phone with a GM today.
33:16And he told me Fred Warner is the best linebacker in football.
33:20And it's not close. That was a GM separate GM.
33:24Then I was on the phone with another coaching friend.
33:27And this was last Friday. So a lot had happened between who said Fred Warner is the best defensive football player in football.
33:35And so we had one guy saying that he's the best linebacker in all of football.
33:41Another one saying he's the best defensive player in football.
33:44Again, I don't know where he ranks in each eye.
33:47I'm trying to think, is there, which linebacker would I want ahead of Fred Warner right now?
33:53Like which linebacker stands out to me off the top of my head?
33:58I, I'm sure there is. There are some really good ones.
34:01He might be the one, you know, in terms of linebackers.
34:05But yeah, I mean, that's a, Hey, listen, that's a, that's an interesting, that's an interesting conversation to have.
34:12I was just trying to pull up the NFL top 100 and see where Fred Warner is ranked.
34:18Yeah. Well, you can, while you look at that two other things that stand out about it, Fred Warner as a person is aces.
34:26It's like his character is off the charts. We had him in ESPN for a post-season countdown and, and to be around that guy.
34:34Oh my God. Does he handle himself? Like, oh, oh, is he impressive in every which way?
34:40And I sent him the text, you know, I just, I want him to hear what people were saying about him.
34:47And he said to me, he's takes it back.
34:50He goes amongst other things. They haven't seen nothing yet.
34:54Got to keep going, which is also the sign of a great play.
34:58Like Tim, it doesn't mean anything, right? Just going to go keep playing and keep making plays.
35:04Where's he on the NFL top 100 tie? He is number 54.
35:08How many linebackers above him? Um, let's see. I'm not seeing very many linebackers above him, but again, I didn't have really, I, I would agree with that.
35:17When you go defensive player though, there are several defensive players above like Max Crosby, Derek Stingley, Daniil Hunter.
35:24Um, let's see who else we got here. Brian Burns, Will Anderson Jr.
35:28Uh, Pat Sertan, Micah Parsons and Miles Garrett. You know, I mean, there are, and that, that was only up through 26.
35:36So, but in terms of linebacker, I think a lot of people would argue that he is the best linebacker in the NFL.
35:44You know, on that list, those are great players.
35:47Great players. Um, you know, I, I love the character element of it all.
35:52Sertan is awesome. Will Anderson is freak, but I'm all, I'm, I'm okay.
35:56Taking Fred Warner on my team, like with a top pick there, like I got no issues there.
36:02When all factors considered intangibles and all, I'm okay with Fred Warner.
36:06Like it's an interesting question. Yeah, it is. Two people raised the point to me.
36:11They're playing Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald that week.
36:14I just thought it was worth pointing out. And I think the point is Fred Warner also is a beast.
36:21Yes. All right, Ty. That's one week, right? We got one week down.
36:26We got more ahead. We're going to be back in this space Thursday, resuming our Thursday six pack.
